Expected Areas of Competence The candidate, based at BMS K.K. in Tokyo, will manage alliances of modest complexity and lead alliances that involve periodic reporting to collaborators. The candidate will support senior global alliance leaders in the management of complex alliances in Japan by leading certain operational aspects of the collaboration, while developing his/her strategic alliance skillset and business acumen. Under the guidance of global alliance (GA) leadership, the candidate will interface with internal and partnership stakeholders to ensure executional alignment. The candidate will also contribute to group initiatives to support the business and support Global Alliance leadership in strategic requests that ultimately contribute to team and organizational success. Key activities With guidance from global alliance leadership and oversight from manager, serve as primary point of contact for collaborators in Japan and ensure executional alignment for alliances of modest complexity. Lead alliances that typically involve periodic reporting to collaborators, including interaction with internal project team and interaction with finance team for tracking of milestone payments. Work alongside a senior alliance lead on alliances of higher complexity in Japan while acquiring strategic alliance skills and contributing to operational success. Assist senior alliance leaders on new deals, amendments, expansions, extensions, and terminations of existing collaborations, further expanding business acumen and gaining experience. Travel to partner sites in Japan to maintain relationships as needed. Participate in and contribute to team meetings to share perspectives and learnings. Collaborate within team to foster diversity and inclusion. Contribute to group initiatives and potentially lead management of key group initiatives that have impact across the global alliance organization. Support Global Alliance leadership for strategic requests; collaborate with global alliance team to execute strategic requests. Participate in mentoring with internal stakeholders. Attend various external and Alliance Management trainings. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Minimum 3 years pharmaceutical industry experience. Operational experience; management and organization of meetings. Effective at building relationships and influencing. Demonstrated ability to exercise diplomacy. Proficiency in both English and Japanese languages is a requirement for this position. Preferred Qualifications Scientific knowledge preferred, with experience in development a plus. Experience of managing third parties at various service levels preferred. Alliance Management or related skills preferred. Experience and comfort with contractual and legal terms preferred.
