Position: Water Reclamation Manager Reports to: General Manager Salary Range: $97,500 – $106,500 plus monthly and quarterly incentive FLSA: Exempt not eligible for OT SUMMARY Responsible for implementing and directing the day-to-day process control and operational activities, plans, and programs to ensure efficient operation of Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) compliance for Pratt’s Staten Island, NY paper mill. Including review of WWTP data and directing process changes to ensure compliance with all applicable permits. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Review WWTP data and directing process changes as needed to ensure compliance with all applicable permits and regulations. Prepare operational reports, statistical reports, trends, graphics, and other data analysis as needed Maintain and submit wastewater compliance records and reports as required by permits Troubleshoot, diagnose, and solve issues related to the operation of the WWTP Schedule, monitor, and interpret required laboratory sample analysis for the Mill’s wastewater permits Ensure all required compliance testing is completed with the proper frequencies, test protocols, holding times, etc. Research and develop continuous improvement projects to improve the Mills’ wastewater operations, cost structure, etc. including planning, scheduling, and executing WWTP outages for equipment and control systems while minimizing impact to Mill production Develop a maintenance plan, spare parts inventory, and critical equipment policy Develop Standard Operating Procedures for facility’s WWTP Review monthly Discharge Monitoring Reports and other quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports with Mill’s Responsible Official and Senior Environmental personnel Position manages 3 direct reports Additional duties as assigned by management EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Post-secondary educational degree (2 to 4-year degree from college, university, technical school, military, vocational or other advanced educational institution) REQUIRED Five plus years of experience in the wastewater treatment field or industrial wastewater treatment Ability to quickly obtain State of Indiana Class D Industrial Wastewater Operator certification; either through reciprocity or testing Experience with anaerobic and aerobic WWTP operations Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following: Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, Chemical or Bio-Chemical Engineering Industrial wastewater experience strongly preferred LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, manuals, regulations, and codes. Ability to write business reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with management, customers, employees, and external regulatory officials. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as effluent quality, quantity in various forms including mg/L, lbs/day, etc. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. TECHNICAL SKILLS WWTP equipment specifications and performance Computer data entry Understanding of permits and regulations applicable to multiple Mills in different jurisdictions Understanding of anaerobic and aerobic wastewater treatment systems and interpretation of operational data to implement appropriate process changes PHYSICAL DEMANDS Employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, hot and cold temperatures, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
