Overview & Responsibilities The Controller is a leadership role with significant and broad responsibilities. This role will report to the Chief Financial Officer and lead our 8-person Accounting Department. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, this person will streamline our budgeting and financial reporting processes. The controller will also produce thorough financial-status reports to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth. This position is an in-office, minimum 4 days/week, hybrid role that can be located in our Baton Rouge, LA corporate office or our Plano, TX corporate office. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances. Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements. Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting. Provide comprehensive financial updates to leadership by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points. Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines. Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective actions. Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, organizational budgets, and actual expenditures. Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity. Manage all aspects of Accounting: billing, financial statements, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, revenue recognition, and various special analyses. Responsible for organized and accurate month-end and year-end closing process. Review the status of cash and all other balance sheet reconciliations periodically as assigned and direct research/corrections necessary. Coordinate preparation of annual corporate tax returns. Collaborate with auditors/examiners on various comprehensive audits and strive for clean audit results. Responsible for promoting a strong internal control structure within the company. Responsible for formulating and promoting strong accounting policies and conformity with GAAP. Oversee all department projects and allocate financial and talent resources appropriately. Requirements 10+ years of relevant experience in a leadership role at a financial services company. Consumer lending industry experience strongly preferred including experience with a balance sheet lender outside of the mortgage space (auto, personal loans, credit card, etc.) Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. CPA or MBA preferred. Strong knowledge of all aspects of GAAP; IFRS is a plus. Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results. Strong track record of attracting, retaining, and coaching talent. Experience with implications of CECL on CO policy and helping organizations integrate with business processes and strategy to optimize. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of an organization Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with other financial systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle). Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures. Experience with creating financial statements. Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process. Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis. Working knowledge of Federal and State (Local) tax regulations and compliance reporting. Exemplary history of financial project management.
