Overview OCTA's Summer College Intern Program is a ten-week paid student/intern program. You will gain real world work experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of transportation professional. You will have the opportunity to use problem solving, communication and decision-making skills as you gain valuable work experience. As a Summer College Intern, you will be exposed to OCTA's career opportunities in the transportation industry. You will gain deeper awareness of transportation's many facets through your OCTA orientation, projects and teams, and internal networking. Under direct supervision, students will perform a variety of professional, entry-level duties to obtain practical experience related to their major field of study and interest, and the sponsoring department's current business operations within OCTA and the Transportation Industry. Employment will be full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, for the duration of the ten-week program. An internship in Internal Communications offers a unique opportunity to learn about employee engagement, human resources programs and safety and wellness initiatives. If you have good collaboration, teamwork and communication skills, this internship may be great for you. Interns are given real-time, entry-level responsibilities that adequately prepare them for the world of work. The pay range is from $18.00 - $21.00 per hour depending on your education level. This position is not eligible for employee benefits. This position will remain open until it is filled. Responsibilities This list is intended to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification and is not designed to be interpreted as an exhaustive listing of all tasks required of employees assigned to this job. Design flyers, digital signage and other internal marketing materials as needed for internal communications. Write, proofread and edit communications in support of projects and initiatives, as requested, including articles, email announcements, presentations and internal marketing copy. Ensure conformance to OCTA writing standards; ensuring correct spelling and use of punctuation, grammar, AP style and agency branding (OCTA Style Guidelines). Develop and update intranet content as needed, within specified timeframes, using SharePoint for content management. Obtain content approval, as needed; make edits as necessary. Help generate social content on the homepage. Test or proofread materials to ensure they display correctly and web links work. Perform other tasks as assigned, including daily work progress tracking, production assistance, graphics/design/formatting and photo taking of employees and OCTA events. Interest in: Learning the principles and practices of the communications field. Learning the methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in the communications field. Ability to: Perform entry-level professional work. Acquire increasingly complex and technical knowledge and skills. Assume progressively responsible duties. Qualifications Requirements to qualify for the Summer College Intern Program are as follows: College students must be enrolled full-time in a two or four-year college program, at an accredited college or university, and follow a course of study leading to an undergraduate or graduate degree. Students that graduate with their bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in the fall of 2023 or the spring of 2024, are eligible. College students enrolled full-time and pursuing a master’s degree from an accredited college. Desirable degree program for this assignment is Graphic Design, Communication, or related discipline. Special Qualifications: College students pursuing a course of study leading to an undergraduate degree must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or better. College students pursuing a course of study leading to a graduate degree must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Must submit most recent college transcript.
