«out the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 11 The Role: Oil Market Specialist. The Team: You will be part of a global, dynamic team. Our goal is to offer near-term forward-looking insights to all our clients involved in oil markets. When a market-moving event occurs, we aim to rapidly provide an assessment of how that event affects fundamental balances, operations, trade and price. This is a fast-paced role, with changing analysis, tools and deliverables focused on providing the key insights that all our oil trading clients value. How this fits in Commodity Insights: Analysis and outlooks provided to our clients fall along a broad spectrum of time scales. At the front end there is Platts news reporting and end-of-day Price Assessments. Then comes the Near-Term team with daily/weekly responsibility looking out for the next few months. That is followed by monthly outlooks from the Short-Term team and Annual outlooks from the Long-Term team. This new role is designed to fill the gap between News/Price and the Weekly Near-Term team. It will provide the trading community with actionable insights in the very prompt timeframe that they require. The Impact: You will function as a subject matter expert on oil markets, particularly how near-term, evolving events affect our outlook for prices, oil market fundamentals and market participant behavior. The insights we offer bridge the gap between the market reporting work by Platts and the monthly fundamental supply-demand-inventory forecasts by our extensive research team to create timely insights useful to the trading community. What’s in it for you: The Oil Market Specialist position is a new and critically important role that will provide nearly immediate analysis of breaking events to help guide the oil trading community. You will need to act independently, think “on your feet” to provide a “first take” analysis of developing events. Your analysis will be reinforced and expanded upon by our broader team during the course of the day/week, but your work starts it moving. These insights will be shared with our clients in a near real-time fashion. This is a high-profile position in a very dynamic market environment. Responsibilities: Provide very rapid analysis of evolving oil market events and how they affect oil fundamentals and price for our trading-oriented clients. Coverage includes both crude oil and refined products. Communicate this analysis in near real-time to our clients in writing, verbally and perhaps on video. Work with the rest of the near-term team to provide regular weekly near-term analysis of fundamentals and how they affect markets and roll up into our fundamentals-based monthly oil outlooks. What We’re Looking For: Demonstrated experience as an oil industry analyst (10+ years preferred). Broad knowledge of the global oil industry, both crude oil and oil products, and its related refining & shipping infrastructure is a must. The ability to use that background to “think on your feet” to quickly assess the impact of any oil market moving event. Excellent communication skills in English are a must as part of the role will be to communicate our insights in writing, verbally and perhaps on video. Public speaking experience is a clear plus. Works well in a team environment, focusing on collaboration and adapting to the needs of a diverse team, but can act independently to develop a clear and logical analysis of an evolving situation. Adept at managing multiple tasks and adhering to regular deadlines. Able to adjust priorities throughout the day as needed in a highly dynamic market environment. Professional integrity and willingness/desire to cultivate an open mindset and teamwork culture. BA/BS or MS in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Business, and/or related field of study. Equivalent experience within a discipline also considered.
