Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This position partners with Executive and Operation Management to identify, establish, and maintain an effective safety program which will minimize accident, injuries, and other risk associated with a DOT classified workforce. Manages the random drug and alcohol program Partners with the Director of Safety and Compliance, Operations Leadership and Executive Leadership to develop, implement, and execute strategies Management accident reporting and investigating – involved with discipline as needed Hours of Service audits Directs other personnel in safety related areas Conducts compliance audits including working directly with the drivers and the Leadership Team to develop and implement Key safety improvement procedures and policies. Assists in designing and implementing safety programs and setting budgets for the Region. Assists in maintaining driver qualification files Performs related duties as assigned by Supervisor Maintains compliance with company policies and procedures Assists with driver recruiting and onboarding Comply with all company policies and procedures. Additional duties as assigned by management. Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: Working knowledge of CFR 29 and CFR 49: 5 years’ experience in the transportation industry in a safety role Knowledge of all applicable safety rules and regulations – DOT, DMV, FMCSA, and OSHA Bachelor’s Degree Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook) Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions. Employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 to 30 pounds. Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
