Summary Under direction performs a variety of payroll and payroll tax functions in the preparation, processing, maintenance, verification and reconciliation of payroll and payment of funds to employees in multiple states for multiple companies. Analyze payroll tax issues and provide recommendations for solutions relating, but not limited to, reciprocal taxation, employer-issued STD payments, local taxation, and employer-provided fringe benefits. Reviews the accuracy and completeness of postings and reconciliation of various tax withholdings. This position is the payroll staff resource for questions regarding tax set up in the payroll systems. Responsibilities Assists Payroll Manager in identifying, implementing, and adhering to new payroll policies and procedures as needed. Coordinates yearend activities with department leads including preparing W2’s Prepares, reconciles, and submits tax files to third party vendor. Participates in and coordinates internal and external audits of payroll controls, tax data and records. Assists with periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions. Prepares requests for checks for the payment of payroll liabilities. Ensure compliance with legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions. Work with accounting to audit daily funding including regular payroll, off-cycle payrolls, amendments, quarterly true-ups. Provide high level of customer service to employees and peers in other departments. Assist with the various tax related issues. Responsible for the complete process of producing one or more company payrolls from start to finish. Processes garnishments in the payroll system and creates the payment vouchers to clear liabilities. No supervisory responsibilities Other duties as assigned Qualifications Three years payroll processing/reconciliation experience Bachelor’s degree – Accounting or Business. Relevant finance/accounting experience may be substituted. Experience with multi-state, multi-entity employee population Two years’ experience using Deltek Cost Point preferred Experience with ADP services or other third-party tax services preferred CPP designation preferred FPC testing required within one year. Ability and skill to aid with system upgrade/implementation. Working knowledge of government compliance with all Local, State, Federal, Wage & Tax Laws including FLSA Knowledge of Accounting concepts and Control Procedures Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills Extremely detail oriented. Ability to prioritize projects, work quickly, establish deadlines internally and with external business customers, and meet those deadlines. Action-oriented: Must demonstrate a capacity to operate successfully in a fast paced, changing environment to make fact-based decisions and implement recommendations quickly to drive for continuous improvement. Communication skills: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively. Estimated Salary/Wage USD $30.00/Hr. Up to USD $53.00/Hr.
