GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE The Makeup Artist (MUA) is responsible for maximizing sales in the makeup category by engaging guests to determine their individual needs, assisting guests in the selection and purchase of merchandise, and maintaining overall store standards, including cleanliness and replenishment. They represent the image, products, and culture of Ulta Beauty to the Ulta Beauty guest and support the Experience Manager (EM) through a focus on performance (service/retail sales and in-store events), people (guest service and associate culture), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). This position requires professional caliber makeup artistry skills, exceptional guest service, and the aptitude to learn and communicate product knowledge. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions) The MUA is a champion of Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, and should demonstrate them skillfully and consistently by performing the following duties and responsibilities of the position (as well as all other projects/duties as assigned): Performance Conduct personalized, professional caliber makeup demonstrations, applications, and lessons. Contribute to meeting or exceeding the store’s goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), retail shrink and omnichannel sales, with a specific focus on the makeup category as set by Ulta Beauty. Ensure that each guest receives exceptional service by greeting and engaging every guest, personalizing service to their needs, and recommending complementary products and/or services. Participate in promotions and marketing initiatives. Book appointments for and support the execution of services and in-store events that deliver an unrivaled guest experience while delivering on sales goals for the makeup category and the store. Take the initiative to stay informed regarding new and existing industry trends, products, and services during work time, and be knowledgeable about the ingredients and benefits of these trends, products, and services to better serve guests. Maintain prompt, regular attendance. People Contribute to an inclusive environment that supports teammates, peers, and the internal and external guests served. Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, with guests on the sales floor. Maintain and update an active clientele portfolio for makeup category sales. Serve as an Ulta Beauty brand ambassador with all store associates, brand partners, and guests by sharing product knowledge, makeup application techniques, and information on makeup trends. Maintain strong relationships with makeup brand partners through participation in required trainings and the execution of in-store events and promotions. Regularly participate in ongoing training, including makeup application techniques, guest experience, product knowledge and brand and category education to enable continuous professional development and drive makeup category sales performance. Collaborate with managers and associates throughout the store to help grow the business. Process Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards. Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code. Drive sales by keeping assigned work area replenished, signed, and faced and ensuring testers are available and maintained in compliance with hygiene standards. Maintain outstanding store operational standards, including cleanliness of the makeup area and any additional assigned area, including the salesfloor, restrooms, cashwrap, backroom, and break area. Participate in completing merchandise resets, planograms, marketing displays, physical inventory procedures, and processing shipment using Ulta Beauty provided technology and best practices. Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices and providing exceptional guest service. Execute other operational tasks as directed. The pay range for this position is $13.65 - $22.25 / Hour with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn additional compensation pursuant to the Company’s bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs.
