Overview: Under general supervision, conducts on-the-job training for Coach Operators with a focus on customer service, safety, courtesy, and reliability. This position is not eligible for employee benefits. The work schedule will consist of approximately 20 hours a week, not to exceed 1,000 hours within a continuous 12 month period. This position is non-exempt in Salary Range 190: Min $39.53– Mid $47.43 – Max $55.34 per hour. The starting salary will be within this range based on qualifications. This posting will remain open until filled. Responsibilities This list is intended to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification and is not designed to be interpreted as an exhaustive listing of all tasks required of employees assigned to this job. Evaluates, coaches, and reports coach operators work performance. Evaluates, coaches, and reports coach operators work performance. Updates Operations Training management on performance of students. Makes recommendations for completion of training, additional training, or termination. Reviews training progress with students, keeping students on task. Coaches and counsels’ students who do not perform to standards. Conducts pre-trip, skills, and road training for bus operations and maintenance personnel. Trains, evaluates, and reports on any and all needs in regard to coach operators (i.e. spot training, and performs safety campaigns). Knowledge of: Transit operating procedures, rules, and regulations. Transit routes, schedules, and equipment. Labor contracts. Bus equipment, operations, and mechanics. Types of problems encountered by coach operators and alternative solutions. California State vehicle laws and codes. Record-keeping techniques. Safe practices in the operation of a transit system. Counseling techniques. Leadership and interpersonal skills. Commercial vehicles and auxiliary equipment. Motor Vehicle Code, Code of Federal Regulations, and the California Code of Regulations. Training methods and principles. Ability to: Maintain confidentiality and utilize management techniques in a classroom setting. Apply operating rules and regulations. Analyze situations; make quick, sound decisions; adopt an effective course of action. Operate commercial vehicles and equipment, specifically buses. Communicate and interact through mutual respect with trainees, subordinates, peers, co-workers, supervisors, and managers Work effectively, cooperatively, positively, and patiently with others. Share knowledge both internally and externally relating to Operations Training. Use basic computer software applications, such as Word and Excel. Qualifications Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and a minimum of five years of direct customer service experience is required. Must have a minimum of two years of experience as a Coach Operator or two years of transit operations. Experience conducting adult learner training is preferred. Special Qualifications: Valid California commercial driver license (Class A or B with passenger endorsement) and current medical card. Valid certifications in the TSI Instructors Course in Bus/Paratransit Operator Training and Verification of Transit Training is preferred.
