Zip Code: 41005 Minimum Level of Education: High School or Equivalent Employment Type: Full Time Travel Percentage: 0 POSITION SUMMARY: Commercial Driver’s License Instructors teach new Non-Class A CDL driver trainees how to drive safely and pass the Class A CDL exam. SYGMA’s goal is to give our new drivers the kind of training that includes the highest standards of safety and prescribed work methods that give them the tools for success. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides hands-on training on DOT Pre-trip / Post Trip, DOT Vehicle Inspection, Skills/ Maneuvers, Range and Road Driving Skills required to meet the requirements needed to successfully pass the Class A Commercial Driver’s Test Prepares trainee to pass the DOT Class A CDL Test Uses established training materials to train new Non-Class A CDL driver trainees on the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle Provides training in prescribed training methods and practices associated with commercial vehicle training Provides CDL Handbook training in compliance with all local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and laws Evaluates and tests candidates during various stages of training to ensure readiness for the CDL Exam Follow Smith System Training Program Ensure proper maintenance of equipment including following shop procedures for reporting repairs Ensure equipment is ready for DOT Inspection (train driver trainee on this process) Schedule CDL Testing for trainees Collaborate with third party companies / examiners to ensure that students are tested in a timely manner Ensure trainees have all documentation for CDL Testing 75% Travel REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Candidates must have 5 years minimum Class A commercial vehicle experience Must be physically able to operate Class A motor vehicles Be patient and a good leader towards students Demonstrate empathy towards students during training PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma Computer skills to complete and create reports Previous Certified CDL Instructor or Examiner is a plus Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid CDL Class A Driver’s License required Valid Medical Card Clean MVR Report KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Excellent Verbal Communication Skills Good documentation / follow-up skills Training Delivery Drivers in a classroom and outdoor setting Excellent Teaching and Coaching Skills PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Working outside in many types weather conditions. Working on your feet for several hours, Climbing, sitting, bending in and around vehicle equipment. Joining in training classes involve lifting, climbing, walking, sitting, standing for 8 to 10 hours a day. Other days sitting long hours in a desk, using computer and phone. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounter while performing the essential functions of the job. Working outside in many types weather conditions Working in and around vehicle equipment Traveling from location to other SYGMA sites and locations occasionally Warehouse and Trucking Site, loud noises, OSHA safety, vehicle safety area. Working in trucking yards, warehouse, and classroom locations often. Wear safety gear around equipment, high noise levels around equipment.
