The Department of Rehabilitation and Human Performance at Mount Sinai consistently ranks among the best of the nearly five thousand rehabilitation departments in the nation per US News and World Report. Specialty programs include: Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Rehabilitation Innovation and/or Abilities Research Center (ARC) are core components of the departmental clinical and research programs. The Department provides comprehensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation along a continuum of care that includes acute hospitalization, inpatient and outpatient treatment, and long-term follow-up (e.g. community integration), each of which contributes to clinical research infrastructure. The Grants Specialist will provide direct support related to grant submissions for Department of Rehabilitation and Human Performance. Prior grant experience with various sponsors, federal and non-federal is preferred. This will include new and continuing submissions. The Grant Specialist will assist in the development of budgets for grant submissions which are in accordance with guidelines set by sponsors and Mount Sinai. The grant submission platform used by Mount Sinai is InfoEd. Experience is necessary. The Grants Specialist would need to follow detailed instructions, which will vary with each submission. The Grants Specialist will work under the direction of the Associate Director of Administration and Research. The candidate will work closely with investigators and their assigned project coordinators/managers to assist in the preparation of required grant documentation. It is expected that the candidate will provide assistance with the applicable documentation required by sponsor and institution for grant submission preparation. Candidate will have knowledge of and keep up to date and informed on the guidelines in preparation of documentation regarding application submissions, progress reporting, other supporting documentation and back-office financial transactions, which will be completed via our internal platforms including: InfoEd, Meditract, Sinai Central, Sinai Cloud and/or specific sponsor systems. Providing administrative and scientific support for the overall program of research, this individual ensures that the administration of sponsored programs related to research is in compliance with federal, non-federal and institutional policies and procedures. Roles & Responsibilities: Prepares and reviews proposals prior to submissions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. Ensures that grants and contracts applications are submitted in InfoEd and routed to the appropriate committee including (Grants and Contracts Office (GCO), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), Institutional Review Board (IRB), Bio-Safety Officer and Financial Conflict of Interest in Research Committee (COI) and other research Departments. Assists with pre-award budgeting processes, ensuring salaries are accurate and effort is allocated appropriately. Assists with budget preparation and is responsible for monitoring and maintaining records of expenses for variance reporting. Acts as a liaison with departmental administrators, faculty and extramural funding agencies (federal, state, local and non-profit organizations) to endorse any edits to the proposals prior to institutional endorsement. The incumbent will facilitate communications with collaborators to monitor the progress of research and promote best practices of study protocol compliance and implementation. Will create and maintain computer documentation and appropriate files for proposal submissions, awards, and research expenditures. Assists in research compliance including IRB and R&D human subjects protection compliance and related paperwork, ensuring compliance with federal human subjects protection safeguards, including HIPAA and data safety, privacy, and confidentiality. Performs other related duties. Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field, or combination of education and equivalent relevant work experience Experience: 2 years minimum experience (3 yrs preferred) in grants and contracts management.
