<p>Yorkshire Cancer Research is entering an exciting period in its development. As part of this we are expanding our team at our Head Office and a number of new roles are being created. As such, we are now looking for a Head of Research and Clinical Trials to support our Research and Services team.</p>

<b>The Role</b></p>

<p>As our Head of Research and Clinical Trials, you will be responsible for developing, delivering and managing a portfolio of interventional research to ensure the charity meets its ambitious goal of saving 2000 lives each year in Yorkshire. The current portfolio stands at over £55m in research Awards with plans to invest up to £10m in new research Awards per year over the next five years.</p>

Supporting the Director of Research, Services and Policy, your role will involve leading on a new ‘Clinical Trial Development’ function; delivering funding rounds that comply with the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) guidance; strengthening our patient and public involvement in all of our research funding processes; ensuring the highest standards of research governance and contributing to the refinement and implementation of the strategic aims of the charity.</p>

<p>Specifically, you will:</p>
<p> </p>
<ul>
<li>Develop new processes to identify, generate, review and fund proposals for new clinical trials that will meet our KPIs and strategic objectives.</li>
<li>Lead the Research Funding Team to run our response mode funding.</li>
<li>Manage our Research Advisory Panel and continue to increase the diversity of panel members in relation to their expertise, background and lived experiences (the panel comprises academics and people affected by cancer).</li>
<li>In partnership with the Cancer Insight Team strengthen ‘Patient and Public Involvement’ in all aspects of our Research Funding.</li>
<li>Set the Research Funding Team objectives and budgets ensuring they underpin the delivery of the organisational strategy.</li>
<li>Review and develop effective research governance and ensure that our governance structures and peer review processes are in accordance with AMRC guidelines and best practice.</li>
<li>Maintain awareness of the external research environment, including working with the NCRI, AMRC and relevant funding organisations such as the NIHR and other health charities.</li>
<li>Lead and develop the Research Funding Team.</li>

<b>About You</b></p>
<p> </p>
<p>To be considered for this role, you will need:<br />
 </p>
<p> </p>
<ul>
<li>A Post Graduate Qualification in a relevant subject area.</li>
<li>An excellent track record of management and leadership, with proven experience at a senior manager/team leader level in a relevant environment such as delivering or commissioning research in the charity sector.</li>
<li>Substantial experience of implementing, managing and evaluating a strategic portfolio of research studies.</li>
<li>Experience of developing research and clinical trial proposals in collaboration with a broad range of external senior and operational stakeholders including patients.</li>
<li>Experience of commissioning research and clinical trials.</li>
<li>Experience of developing and managing research funding contracts.</li>
<li>An in depth understanding and awareness of the medical research funding and clinical research delivery landscape such as AMRC standards and guidance, clinical research management in the UK, research ethics, the role of the NIHR CRN, role and function of CTUs, IP monitoring, open access publication policies etc.</li>
<li>Substantial experience of building, managing and motivating talented teams to deliver against team and organisational objectives.</li>
<li>Inspiring and empowering management and leadership skills.</li>
<li>Excellent communication and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.</li>
<li>The ability to develop and deliver complex projects.</li>
<li>Excellent contract management, project management, financial planning and risk management skills.</li>
<li>The ability to develop reports and present complex information to a range of stakeholders.</li>
