As the world's biggest medical research charity, we've helped bring eleven new cancer drugs to market. However, there is still an urgent need to bring more effective treatments to patients faster.</p><p> </p><p>We have recently developed a new approach to driving therapeutic innovation through the creation of Cancer Research Horizons. We have brought together Cancer Research UK's established drug discovery teams under one organisation and leadership team, combining our unique pipeline of world class biology, cutting edge technology platforms and clinical expertise to 1) bring new treatments to patients faster and 2) tackle the biggest challenges in discovering cancer drugs by seeking out more radical ideas and embracing risk in our bid to achieve success. </p><p> </p><p>Based at the Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge, the Milner Institute in Cambridge, Granta Park in Cambridge, the Beatson Institute in Glasgow, the Francis Crick Institute in London, and Newcastle University, Cancer Research Horizons employs ~200 staff from both industrial and academic backgrounds.</p><p> </p><p>We have a major focus on establishing and prosecuting biologically-themed multi-project alliances with industrial partners, or through creation of new companies.</p><p>We bring together the best minds in basic and clinical cancer research, the diligence and drive of pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and our in-house drug discovery and alliance management capabilities to deliver breakthrough medicines for cancer patients.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p><strong>What will I be doing? </strong></p><p> </p><p>This lab-based position will involve:</p><ul><li><p>Biological exploration of novel potential immuno-oncology drug targets and biomarkers</p></li><li><p>Developing and executing cell-based assays to enable drug discovery projects</p></li><li><p>Expanding the immuno-oncology suite of assays (capability build)</p></li><li><p>Small molecule and/or Antibody characterisation for target validation</p></li><li><p>Performing target diligence (literature review, tractability and competition/IP analysis) on new targets for proposal into the current immune-oncology portfolio</p></li><li><p>Working collaboratively within the Discovery Bioscience team and interacting with multi-disciplinary research teams both internally and with external collaborators</p></li></ul><p> </p><p>As a Scientist, you will form an integral part of the Cancer Research Horizon Drug Discovery team working alongside our industry and academic partners to progress novel cancer targets towards patient benefit.</p><p> </p><p><strong>What skills are we looking for?</strong></p><ul><li><p>Innovative Scientist with a background in immune-oncology and a track record of delivery in academic and/or industry setting</p></li><li><p>PhD in Biological Science (or equivalent experience)</p></li><li><p>Problem solving skills and proactive attitude</p></li><li><p>A great team player, with the ability to establish and maintain relationships internally and externally</p></li><li><p>Flexible mindset, with the ability to adapt to new challenges and a fast-paced setting</p></li></ul><p> </p><p> </p><p><strong>What will I gain?</strong></p><p>Each and every one of our employees contributes to our progress and is supporting our work to beat cancer.
