<div class="mds-edited-text mds-font-body-copy-bulk"><p>This new and exciting position on the Farnes will require an understanding of the sea, good judgement, and keen awareness of safety. As Boat Ranger, alongside your colleagues you'll be in charge of the day-to-day transport for the Rangers to ferry the team from the mainland to the islands as well as between islands. You'll experience this wonderfully dynamic group of islands. </p>
<p>In this role you'll work 5 days per week (including weekends) during our busy summer season and outside of this you'll work part time (hours to be discussed at interview). <b>We are able to offer remote interviews for those who live outside of the area but would like to apply. </b>We would hope these roles will commence in early March.</p>

<p><strong>What it's like to work here</strong></p>
<p>The Farnes National Nature Reserve is located off the stunning Northumberland Coast. As one of the UK’s most important breeding sites for seabirds, they are inundated with nesting birds during the summer months. The Islands are also home to one of the largest Atlantic grey seal colonies in the UK - every winter the islands are abundant with endearing white seal pups which are born from October to January. There is a wealth of history linking the Farne Islands with early Christianity and historic buildings include St Cuthbert’s Chapel which dates back to the 14^th century. Attracting thousands of visitors, the Islands are a valuable Northumberland treasure.</p>
<p><strong>What you'll be doing</strong></p>
<p>As Boat Ranger you'll manage the day-to-day transport for the Ranger team and lead boat maintenance on the islands. You'll guide and lead your team in safe boat practices and protocols. Supported by the Area Rangers, you will have a variety of duties which will include duty management, leading and guiding others, organising compliance, running transport operations, and liaising with harbour operators and stakeholders, with the ability to create a problem-solving culture and constructively take responsibility for team welfare. As part of the team you will take part in island set up, habitat management, group cliff counts and visitor engagement.</p>
<p>You'll promote the work that we do and connect people to our cause, sharing your knowledge and passion to emphasise the importance of protecting the Farne Islands for the future. Your inspiration and dedication should encourage support and enhance people’s understanding of the significance of the Farne Islands and its wildlife. </p>

<p><strong>Who we're looking for</strong> <b>Ideally (though not all essential) you'll have:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience in leadership </li>
<li>MCA Boat Masters licence (minimum tier 2) </li>
<li>Practical boat maintenance experience with <b><u>petrol</u></b> engine </li>
<li>Boat handling experience including harbour protocol</li>
<li>Demonstrate a passion for nature, heritage and the outdoors </li>
<li>Have excellent people skills, enabling strong relationships </li>
<li>Be able to work safely, with risk assessments and compliance with safety procedures</li>
<li>Have a full UK driving licence.</li>
