We need someone who can champion fantastic collections care and practise, visitor welcome and the day to day operation of managing volunteers to give great experiences.</p>
<p>This is a fixed term opportunity is for an annualised 1508 hours, running until the end of February 2024. This works out at 29 hours per week for 52 weeks. Regular working days will be Monday, Tuesday, Friday and either a Wednesday or weekend day each week. </p>

<p>What it's like to work here Rufford Old Hall and its surrounding gardens and woodland provide visitors with a true Lancashire experience. It was home to the Hesketh family for over five centuries and the diminutive size of the property still gives it a lovely, homely feel today. Although the Hesketh family no longer reside at Rufford Old Hall, there is a still a close family here made up of our National Trust staff and volunteer family who work together to care for this beautiful house and grounds. </p>

<p>What you'll be doing As the senior lead of the House Team, you’ll manage a team of Collections & House Officers, Collections Assistants and volunteers to implement preventive conservation and cleaning programmes in the house to ensure excellent standards of care, delivering strategies to improve conservation. You’ll be responsible for the planning and implementation of conservation projects, collections care and daily opening of the house ensuring appropriate resources are in place to provide a consistent and excellent visitor experience.</p>

<p>You'll collect and accurately record information to inform our understanding of the house and the collection and use preventive conservation techniques to improve how we conserve, interpret and present the property. Leading by example you’ll ensure a culture of excellent customer care, engaging our visitors with conservation and the values and behaviours of the National Trust.</p>

<p>You'll be head of department for the house and work closely with other heads of department. You will regularly be duty manager for the property and work alongside the wider property team consisting of our House, Welcome, Facilities and Food and Beverage Teams</p>

<p>Who we're looking for</p>

<p>Significant knowledge of working in historic properties A strong working knowledge of preventive conservation and understanding of collections care and management People management skills including rota planning, objective setting and conducting performance reviews, experience of volunteer management Knowledge of visitor experience principles and the ability to contribute ideas to improve access to the collection Knowledge of the relevant compliance, health and safety and emergency procedures Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling relationships to be built and maintained, both internally and externally.
