Consumer Finance Attorney

Overview & Responsibilities Republic Finance is seeking an outstanding, business-minded attorney with expertise in consumer finance to join its Legal & Compliance team. This is a key role with significant responsibilities operating within a collaborative, high-performing Legal & Compliance Department, and working closely with Republic Finance’s Central Collections and Central Operations teams. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the personal consumer loan industry, including loan originations, servicing and collections, bankruptcy, as well as experience with both online and ‘brick and mortar’ lending. This position can be based in Baton Rouge, LA, Plano, TX, or Charlotte, NC. Who is Republic Finance? Job responsibilities are as follows: Work closely with senior executives within Republic Finance’s centralized servicing and collections teams and provide insightful, pragmatic advice to help these teams be more efficient and effective while maintaining the highest standards of regulatory compliance Advise on consumer finance-related regulatory, compliance, and legal issues with a strong focus on consumer debt collection practices Lead role in tracking and advising on all developments related to key legal subjects, including customer communication, TCPA (use of auto-dialer, texting, etc.), FDCPA, and first-party and third-party debt collections at both the state and federal level Remain current on relevant consumer finance, consumer protection, and data privacy and protection laws and regulations to ensure ability to provide sound regulatory advice Communicate and negotiate effectively with external parties (regulators, vendors, etc.) Communicate regularly with, and make formal presentations and proposals to, general counsel and executive management regarding policy and business considerations Participate in industry working groups Collaborate closely with outside counsel as directed Requirements Law degree - licensed by and in good standing with the at least one US state bar licensing authority 3-7 years of relevant experience with the legal and regulatory aspects of consumer lending and servicing Knowledge and application of federal consumer protection laws and regulations, including but not limited to, FDCPA, CFPB Debt Collection Rules, ECOA, TILA, EFTA, FCRA, TCPA, GLBA, and UDAAP, and any state-level statutory and regulation counterparts within Republic Finance’s footprint and targeted expansion states Ability to work with minimal direction and exercise independent judgment, anticipate and mitigate friction points, and take the initiative to promptly resolve and learn from challenges Ability to assess risks and provide thoughtful, pragmatic advice in a fast-paced environment Ability to grasp technical concepts and convey them in a simple, user-friendly manner Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills Strong PC skills required – proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Benefits We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package including: Health/Dental/Vision Paid Time Off (PTO) 401 (K) and employer match Company provided Life Insurance & Long Term Disability Additional benefits with Republic Finance include: Employee of the Month Program Philanthropic support for charities such as Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the American Cancer Society Professional offices with a friendly team environment Republic Finance, LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, national origin, age disability or veteran status in employment opportunities and benefits.
