Overview The Facilities & Infrastructure Operations Division is responsible for plant engineering, plant energy and utility operations, and facility operations for the South campus and leased facilities, North Campus and Infrastructure Operations, the Physical Science facility, and the 300 Area. In addition, the Division oversees campus infrastructure such as fabrication and craft services, duplicating and mail services, relocations, receiving, distributed services, and maintains operations of roads, grounds, and utilities for the campus. Bargaining Unit: Weekly Pay: $1952.42 This is a bargaining unit position and will be under the Battelle/HAMTC Collective Bargaining Agreement. As a condition of employment, unless otherwise exempted, the staff member will be required to join the appropriate union affiliated with the Hanford Metal Trades Council (HAMTC) after 30 days of continuous service and pay union dues or pay agency fees to such union in lieu of joining. Responsibilities This full-time position is assigned to perform welding duties as assigned by the Work Team Lead. Will utilize advanced welding techniques in the following processes using various base materials in support of research projects and facility maintenance: Shielded metal arc (SMAW) Gas metal arc (GMAW) Gas tungsten arc (GTAW) Orbital welding Oxy acetylene Will set up and use tools and equipment, including hand and/or power tools, as needed to perform the aforementioned work. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: A High School education or equivalent. Must have the ability to qualify as a full Journeyman Welder with the appropriate union affiliated with HAMTC. This must be reflected in the resume submitted. Applicant must possess and be able to utilize advanced skills in the following process using various base materials: Shielded metal arc (SMAW) Gas metal arc (GMAW) Gas tungsten arc (GTAW) Orbital welding Oxy acetylene Must have the ability to set up and use tools and equipment, including hand and/or power tools, as needed to perform the aforementioned work. Must be able to safely and effectively utilize all tools, materials, and equipment common to the trade. Must have the ability to pass onboarding welding test consisting of (at a minimum) carbon steel 2”, schedule 160 in a 6G position with additional test to follow. Must have a valid state-issued driver's license. Preferred Qualifications: Prefer minimum of 5 years welding experience Ability to study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, to determine dimensions and tolerances of fabricated parts, sequence of operations, and setup requirements for weld performance. Ability to select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials to proper placement and securement of parts for welding. Ability to verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Ability to fit and assemble parts into complete assembly for welding using jigs, fixtures, surface plates, surface tables, hand tools, and power tools. Ability to verify dimensions using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks. Ability to develop specifications from general descriptions and draw sketches of part or product to be fabricated. Ability to confer with engineers or others to resolve welding problems. Ability to understand and maintain a safe working environment for themselves and for their co-workers. Embodies a questioning attitude to create a safe working atmosphere. Skilled in utilizing electronic work request systems/tracking for tablets or Smartphones. Additional Information Not Applicable.
