DescriptionThe Vascular Coordinator performs basic and advanced ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols.
ResponsibilitiesRoles & Responsibilities:
- Greets registered patients at time of visit and triages patients through the patient flow process. Checks schedules and accompanies patients to exam/procedure room. Assists patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing and preparing for exam.
- Reviews and verifies patient identity, history and requisition for exam to be performed.
- Prepares patient for vascular ultrasound exam; Positions patient on examination table according to departmental standard operating procedures; explains procedures in layman’s terms to relieve patient of pre-testing anxiety.
- Performs physiologic arterial testing of upper/lower extremities utilizing analogue waveforms, segmental pressures, photo plethysmography, pulse volume recording, exercise or hyperemia response, and duplex imaging; performs intracranial cerebrovascular testing using transcranial duplex imaging; performs upper/lower extremity venous testing utilizing duplex imaging.
- Obtains pertinent imaging and diagnostic reports required for correlation with ultrasound exam being performed; consults with referring physician regarding patient history and to determine appropriate ultrasound exam required.
- Accompanies the provider into the exam room, updates or collects patient history and inputs patient data into the practice management system. Explains procedure to be performed to patient prior to procedure and answers any questions throughout.
- Performs non-invasive testing procedures to evaluate arterial and venous circulation using a hand held Doppler, pulse volume recorder, photo plethysmography and duplex ultrasound imaging techniques; Performs more complex studies such as post-op graft evaluation, renal artery Duplex study, AVF/AVG evaluation and Endovascular Duplex study.
- Observes patient during entire examination. Recognizes and reports any changes in patient’s condition and/or motor abnormality complaints by patient including: fainting, discoloration, etc. in accordance with procedures.
- Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery. May assist with cost control.
- Performs minor repairs and frequent calibration checks and adjusts ultrasound equipment, when necessary and troubleshoots mechanical problems of the equipment by performing minor repairs as necessary.
- Assists with the review of cases and literature regarding patient care and research protocols, as well as the collection of data for publications.
QualificationsRequirements:
- HS Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
- Graduate of a two-year ultrasound program with clinical and didactic education
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification; Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
- BLS (issued by the American Heart Association)
- 1-3 years of technical experience preferred
