Trainee Ambulance Care Assistant - Patient Transport Service

Would you like to train to become a qualified Ambulance Care Assistant? We're currently recruiting 24 trainees for our next intake of Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (PTS) Crew in East & West Scotland. You don't need to have experience - we're looking for people with the desire to join our team and make a real difference to the lives of people in crisis.
Once qualified as PTS crew, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and deployment of a Red Cross PTS vehicle working under contract for various ambulance or Hospital trusts. Based in Glasgow, Edinburgh and on occasions other central locations you will work up to on average 36 hours per week, following a rota pattern that covers 7 days a week (including weekend working) to support service delivery needs.
In this role, you will be responsible for transferring non-clinically critical patients (potentially including Covid-19 patients) from hospital to their home premises or to care facilities in the region. You'll use your qualification to select and utilise appropriate equipment and skills to transport patients in line with current protocols and equivalent to Care Quality Commission standards.
Successful candidates will be required to commence an intensive (paid) training programme during November (starting on
Monday 1st Nov 2021 over various days until
Sunday 21st Nov 2021). A proportion of this training will be undertaken online from your home, so you will require a suitable device with an internet connection.
When crisis strikes, we're first on the scene Our Ambulance support work is contract driven and based around agreements to provide a range of services from patient transport to emergency ambulance support within Scotland. Our services are undertaken and delivered to a defined scope of practice from the ambulance service and NHS Boards and further aligned to the regulated standards applied by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) which we apply consistently across the whole of the British Red Cross in the UK. Our fleet and equipment are comparable with those deployed by NHS services.
We are a well-integrated team united by one goal - to save lives, and help people in crisis, particularly in the discharge process of patients from hospital and healthcare facilities.
This role might be for you if you are- A full driving licence holder with a driving licence which allows you to operate a manual transmission vehicle (please note that, due to vehicle insurance policy requirements, applicants must be aged 21 or over and must have held their licence for a minimum of two full years)
- Qualified to a formal level in Maths and English (or equivalent)
- Interested in and able to commit to working towards and achieving a BRC qualification in Patient Transport, with further advancement available
- Flexible - comfortable working shifts including unsocial hours, bank holidays, evenings and weekends as required

Please Note: A good general level of physical fitness is required for this role - you will potentially be required to lift equipment such as wheelchairs, carry chairs and stretchers
