The Senior Policy Officer (Hunger and Malnutrition in Fragile Contexts) will lead UK advocacy on hunger and malnutrition, with a focus on Fragile and Conflict Affected States (FCAS). They will develop and implement advocacy strategies for our client, based on a sound understanding of the nexus between hunger and malnutrition, conflict, and climate change in fragile contexts, pushing for policy change, actions and outcomes that will have a positive impact on the lives of poor people, and those displaced and vulnerable in the countries where our client works.

They will work closely with the Senior Policy Adviser (Hunger) based in Dublin, to coordinate and strengthen wider organisational advocacy on tackling global hunger and malnutrition.

Senior Policy Officer Responsibilities:

• Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of our client's advocacy plans on hunger and malnutrition, with a focus on fragile contexts.
• Work closely with the Senior Policy Adviser (Hunger) and the other IAT colleagues to strengthen wider organisational advocacy on hunger and malnutrition, including on conflict and hunger, in alignment with the International Advocacy strategy. Leverage opportunities for jointly influencing global targets and decision makers.
• Synthesise evidence based on our client’s programmes and that from external sources to develop policy positions, reports and briefs, key messages etc. on tackling hunger and malnutrition in fragile contexts.
• Position our client strongly to influence UK policy and institutions for improving funding, practice, and leadership on tackling hunger and malnutrition in FCAS. Work closely with other allies in the sector to push for positive change on the same.
• Provide policy guidance to drive parliamentary and public engagement on food security and malnutrition in fragile contexts.
• Draft and/or feed into relevant consultation submissions, letters, and statements on relevant hunger and malnutrition issues and ensure our client’s messaging is reflected within them.
• Produce timely public-facing products, for example, blogs, op-eds, and statements on hunger and malnutrition issues in FCAS.
• Be willing to become a media spokesperson for our client on food security and nutrition.

Senior Policy Officer Requirements:

• Experience of hunger and/or nutrition advocacy, programmes, or research, ideally in relation to fragile and conflict affected states.
• Experience of advocacy strategy planning and delivery, policy analysis and influencing, ideally in the UK context.
• Experience of working for an international development NGO, donor, research organisation or UN agency in a policy position.
• Strong grasp of the global development and humanitarian landscape and ongoing discussions regarding these.
• Self motivation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team members, colleagues, and other NGOs.
• Ability to translate evidence into clear, simple, accessible advocacy outputs.
• Sound judgement, time management, and ability to work to tight deadlines.
• Active commitment to our client’s mission, values, and to promoting diversity, equity and the interests of marginalised people.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent analytical and research skills.
• Willingness to travel overseas when required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, using online platforms like Teams, Zoom.

Desirable

• Experience working in fragile and conflict affected states and/or humanitarian response, with a focus on nutrition and food security.
• French language skills
• Campaigns experience

Contract Type: Permanent, full time
Salary: 5B, £39,054 - £43,165 per annum. It is company policy to start new employees at the beginning of their pay band.

They are currently trialling a hybrid model of working which will be a blend of weekly office attendance and UK based remote working.
