Overview / Responsibilities

Wood are recruiting Senior E&I Designers to execute scopes of work for a Aberdeen-based client, developing electrical and instrument design drawings and documents relating to a wide range of industrial equipment wqithin the Oil & Gas sector, as well as as-building drawings and documents following project implementation.

The succesful applicant must be in a commutable distance to Aberdeen as three days per week will be based within the client office. This role has been deemed inside IR35 so PAYE or staff only will be considered.

Senior E&I Designers shall have an in depth working knowledge of instrument and control equipment as well as Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD as well as 3D software systems such as SmartPlant. As required, they may be required to travel to job sites to undertake measurements, installation check and surveys, etc. to suit specific project / client.

As instructed by, and in conjunction with the Engineers, carries out detailed electrical and instrument design work as may be required which will include but will not be limited to the following:

• Consult with and take direction from assigned engineering personnel as may be required
• Once specifications have been developed by the engineers, plan and develop detailed design documents and drawings
• Adopt safe attitudes towards engineering design and identify features affecting the safety and integrity of the design
• To co-ordinate / supervise other designers to suit project requirements
• To attend project meetings as required / instructed
• To ensure that estimated design man hours are professionally managed in order to achieve project / company expectations
• Undertake review and signature check of appropriate design documents generated by other designers
• To partake in duties associated with document management and archiving in accordance with company / client requirements
• To undertake detailed surveys to identify appropriate design solutions
• Maintain and develop understanding of relevant technology, codes and standards
• Adhere to company policies and procedures
• Be part of the company safety and quality culture.

Skills / Qualifications

• Demonstrate an in-depth working knowledge of electrical and instrumentation engineering.
• Understanding and experience of relevant codes and standards including BS 7671, IEC 61511, ATEX, DSEAR, CDM 2015, etc.
• Knowledge and understanding of control systems, such as DCS, PLC's, SCADA, etc.
• Knowledge and understanding of power distribution systems and electrical networks
• Experience within the oil and gas, petrochemical or power generation sectors.
• Have experience of working with Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS).
• Demonstrate a sound understanding of industry best practices and work to established standards and current legislation.
• Experience of equipment specification and calculations, such as, Intrinsically Safe calculations, thermowell sizing, etc.
• Offshore design experience.
• BOSIET would be advantageous.
