Responsibilities Job Summary The Teacher is responsible for assisting the other teaching staff or may be in charge of the care, supervision, health and safety of children in one specific age group or multi-age groupings. Works with other teaching staff and at times alone (in the absence of the Lead Teacher) to plan, and implement programs and activities that meet the guidelines and standards of Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), and the Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation outlined by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) coordinates with other teaching staff in the care, organization, and cleanliness of the indoor/outdoor equipment. Participates in the assessment of children and the development of age-appropriate activities Cooperates with the other teaching staff in providing input for planning and implementing a curriculum that meets the criteria of National Academy of Early Childhood Programs (NAEYC) as demonstrated by observation and documentation. Plans and maintains schedules and routines. Participates in the daily observation and evaluation of children as demonstrated by documentation. Uses observations and developmental checklists to support the lead teacher in the daily planning of curriculum, creation of portfolios, and assessment of children. Participates in the preparation for conferences with parents in the fall, winter, and spring and fills in the absence of the lead teacher. Provides a safe, clean, healthy and organized physical environment per Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). Assists in problem solving and implementing procedures to meet these goals throughout the day by sweeping inside and out, cleaning and sanitizing of chairs and tables, children's bathrooms, carpet upkeep, sanitation of equipment and materials as demonstrated by observation and audit. Participate in the maintenance and arrangement of all classroom and playground equipment and materials to ensure a organized and clutter free environment and in the absence of the lead teacher fills out the playground safety checklist and submits it to the coordinator for follow-up. Verbally notifies the coordinator, manager, and director immediately of any safety concerns. Effectively supervises children by sight and sound both inside and outside the classroom at all times. Ensures that all staff follows the CACFP guidelines regarding time of meal service, appropriate portion size and recording of all meals at the time of service. Maintains communication with parents, children, and coworkers. Parents will be consulted about their children's needs and careful follow through will occur parents and children will be acknowledged and assisted during drop off and pick-up time. Information will be communicated verbally to classroom staff in a professional manner at all times including positive and appropriate body language as well as through the classroom journal. Listens attentively to children, clearly responds to their questions and requests. Encourages children of all ages to use language by clearly repeating their sounds, asking open ended questions, and providing opportunities for positive interaction and dialogue throughout their day Practices appropriate guidance, and discipline techniques as outlined by ADHS and NAEYC to ensure that children are cared for and respected and safe at all times. Age appropriate guidance is used for each age group assigned. Ensures that attendance rosters, flash counts are maintained as required from the beginning to the end of the day and submitted to the coordinator. Ensures that all staff is made aware of the needs of children who require special care including those with individual education plans (IEPs) and medical needs. Practices appropriate guidance, and discipline techniques as outlined by ADHS and NAEYC to ensure that children are cared for and respected and safe at all times. Age appropriate guidance is used for each age group assigned. Communicates clearly and tactfully, both orally and in writing, with co-workers, parents and other customers. Seeks assistance from in charge staff such as lead teacher or coordinator to proof read written communication before sending it home to parents, etc. May act as daily coordinator for the center on a rotating basis as assigned. Coordinates staffing by ensuring that teacher/child ratios are in compliance at all times. Plans for staffing for the following day. Covers breaks as necessary and responds to time-off requests in a timely manner Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED Required Other Successful completion of a minimum of 12 hours of early childhood education from an accredited college. Required Experience 1 to 2 years childcare experience with children in a licensed child care facility Required Licenses and Certifications Current Child Care First Aid within 7 days of date of hire into position 7 Days Required Fingerprint Clearance Card - State Current Arizona Dept. of Health Services Fingerprint Clearance Card Upon Hire Required Food Service\Food Handlers Card - Food Handlers Card Food Handlers card required within 7 days of employment 7 Days Required Driver License Valid driver's license Required Other For those Teacher positions that will be required to drive HonorHealth vehicles, incumbent must have a clean driving record as defined by HonorHealth Network Driver Qualification Policy Q-359 (available upon request) and meet the following: 1) Must Be at least 21 years of age 2) Provide a current and valid Arizona driver's license 3) Have a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from the Department of Motor Vehicles obtained and reviewed by Human Resources 4) Successfully complete the next available, quarterly conducted, in-house training HonorHealth Defensive Driving Course and provide a certificate of completion.
