Overview OCTA's College Intern Program is a year-round paid student/intern program. You will gain real world work experience on meaningful projects under the guidance of a transportation professional. You will have the opportunity to use problem solving, communication and decision-making skills as you gain valuable work experience. You will also work with a mentor and benefit from career counseling. As a College Intern, you will be exposed to OCTA's career opportunities in the transportation industry. You will gain deeper awareness of transportation's many facets through your OCTA orientation, projects and teams, and internal networking. Under direct supervision, you will perform a variety of professional entry-level duties related to your major field of study and the sponsoring department's current business operations. The pay range is from $19.00 - $22.00 per hour depending on your education level. This position is not eligible for employee benefits. The work schedule will consist of approximately 20 hours a week, not to exceed 1,000 hours within a continuous 12 month period. Eligibility list may be established up to 6 months from the posting date. This posting will remain open until filled. Responsibilities This list is intended to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification and is not designed to be interpreted as an exhaustive listing of all tasks required of employees assigned to this job. Agenda monitoring and research on local jurisdiction and regional agency policies and proposals. Assistance with preparing weekly and biweekly reports. Coordination of preparation of information to local jurisdictions and other stakeholders pertaining to OCTA programs and projects preparation of fact sheets and briefing materials and other correspondence; proofing and editing documents. Assist Government Relations with proactive communication efforts that support the division in assuring elected officials and staff are aware of OCTA projects, programs and initiatives. Maintaining a master contact list for local agencies. Collaborate with additional government relations staff in communicating information to local agencies. Supporting government relations at OCTA events and programs which involve senior OCTA staff, OCTA Board members and elected officials. Assist in the tracking and analysis of local government relations policy discussions, election tracking, election results, and database maintenance. Help organize local agency briefing events; help put together briefing materials (i.e. organization, printing, set-up). Knowledge of: The operation of all levels of government with emphasis on local and regional entities. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams. Knowledge of basic AI functions (i.e. ChatGPT, etc.) Ability to: Manage multiple projects and support OCTA event planning and implementation tasks. Perform entry-level professional and administrative work. Perform internet research, summarize complex issues or messages. Ability to communicate in verbal and written form in a concise, clear manner. Interest and understanding of the political process at the regional and state level. Research capabilities, including ability to read and interpret council agenda and agency agenda language. Work well in a team environment. Work scheduled days on site. Qualifications Currently a full-time college student enrolled in a two-year or four-year college program and following a course of study leading to a Bachelor's or Master's degree, with emphasis in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Urban Planning or other field related to the hiring department's business. Must be a full-time student maintaining a 2.5 GPA. Intern must conduct themselves in a professional manner.
