Overview
Aramco is seeking a dynamic and experienced CCS Technology Development Specialist to join its CCS Technology Development team, part of the New Energies (NE) organization. NE was established to help achieve the company&
39;s low carbon ambitions and meet its decarbonization targets. NE has so far consolidated into Renewables, Hydrogen, and Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) verticals, with the broad vision to nurture robust and sustainable global businesses by capitalizing on emerging opportunities in strategic growth markets.
The CCS Technology Development Specialist will coordinate and lead techno-economic studies to advance the commercial viability of CCS across global markets and within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The incumbent should have experience across pilot scale demonstration of novel CCS technologies and/or commercial CCS projects. This role will work with multidisciplinary engineering teams and provide expert technical insights on CCS technologies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide technical review and qualification of commercial CCS technologies, including pre-combustion and post-combustion carbon capture technologies.
- Lead engineering design studies to determine the viability of CCS projects. Develop the conceptual design for scoping of new projects, review and approve the engineering calculations and design packages prepared by engineering contractors.
- Engage technology licensors in discussions related to projects licensor selection process and/or troubleshooting operating units.
- Conduct detailed techno economic assessment studies and support the development of Business cases for novel CCS technologies that are deemed attractive for potential investment.
- Work closely with Operations personnel to understand their needs, and deliver engineering solutions to meet expectations.
- Conduct simulation studies using process simulation software packages such as Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus. Utilize process models for new and existing facilities, conduct troubleshooting and process optimization studies and assess the ability of the model to deliver representative results.
- Present technical papers in major international conferences and issue papers in reputable oil and gas journals.
- Support research and pilot projects that will enhance Carbon capture performance.
- Support the development of the company&
39;s CCS strategy/roadmap.
- Share knowledge, and mentor junior engineers.
- Demonstrate excellent technical report writing and presentation skills
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor&
39;s degree in Chemical, Process or Petroleum Engineering. A relevant advanced degree is strongly preferred.
- Minimum 15 years&
39; related experience, with exposure to the CCS value chain, including process engineering experience in CO2 capture projects and a good understanding of engineering considerations, including various trapping mechanisms, either in saline formations and/or depleted oil and gas reservoirs.
- A Professional Engineer (P E / PEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) license is desirable.
- Expert understanding of the various stages of CCS processes and related technologies, including, capture processes and technologies (e.g. chemical absorption, physical separation, adsorption), CO2 transport mechanisms and its economic considerations, and CO2 storage mechanisms.
- Detailed knowledge of industry standards and codes such as API and ASME is required to support design reviews and plant modifications.
- Strong understanding of the different policy/regulatory frameworks that have allowed the successful development of global CCS projects.
- Good understanding of carbon related policies such as carbon tax, cap-and-trade, and carbon pricing.
- Proven ability to foster, develop and manage internal and external cross-cultural relationships.
- Proven ability to successfully collaborate with multinational teams.
