Overview The Creative Services Team works with internal and external stakeholders to concept, create, and deploy visual communications solutions through print and electronic media. The primary focus of this position will be on Illustration and 3D modeling with other graphic design projects as assigned. Common projects include — but are not limited to — scientific figures for proposals and journal articles, technical illustrations, website graphics, marketing brochures, promotional fliers, informational booklets, research reports, scientific presentations, and conference posters. The position is located in Richland, Washington. Responsibilities The 3D Modeler/Graphic Designer is a true expert in their field and works closely and directly with scientific and engineering staff to create illustrations, 3D models and animations, and other graphic design products that accurately represent scientific processes, current and proposed facility models, training materials, and other requests as assigned to be used in a wide variety of print and electronic communications products. They must ensure consistency through applying PNNL or other applicable sponsor visual identity standards to materials that are created. They serve as a strategic member of a dedicated in-house team of creative professionals under the direction of the Creative Director, with direct report to the Manager of Creative Services. The successful candidate must be able to collaborate with, and provide professional 3D, animation, and graphic design services to, internal S&T stakeholders as well as external sponsors through the entire life cycle of a project, that is from determining project requirements through successful project delivery. Key Responsibilities: Pay strict attention to detail, technical accuracy, and graphic design best practices to translate complex scientific concepts into detailed, yet visually engaging, illustrations and other visual communications products. Provide excellent customer service in collaboration with our scientific and engineering staff and other communications professionals by being patient, attentive, having good interpersonal communication skills, time-management skills, and strong organizational skills Manage your project work effectively and efficiently to meet frequent on-demand deadlines in a fast-paced, highly technical team environment with little oversight Work with peers and leadership across the Communications Division to establish effective working relationships Use an online workflow system to initiate communications work to record assignments, monitor progress, and route work. Perform other duties as required/assigned Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant work experience MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant work experience Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated proficiency with industry-standard 3D software, specifically Autodesk Maya, the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office applications. Up-to-date knowledge of current tools and trends in 3D modeling and animation, scientific and technical illustration, and graphic design for print and digital output, including proper file preparation requirements and conventions. Ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects and meet frequent on-demand deadlines in a fast-paced, highly technical team environment with little oversight. Strong organization skills and ability to manage time-sensitive project requests and complete such projects within the timeframe provided. Uses industry best practices, including file management, file setup, accessibility, and print production. Expert at technical, informational, or conceptual illustration including infographics.
