The Janssen R&D Discovery, Product Development, & Supply (DPDS) Postdoctoral Fellowship Program helps early career scientists gain the training and experience needed to further their careers, while addressing the needs of global healthcare. The Centre of Excellence for Predictive Analytics and Stability Sciences (CoE PASS) is seeking a passionate Postdoctoral Fellow to develop novel in silico methods for assessing chemical stability of drug substances. CoE PASS is a team of experimental and computational scientists within the Analytical Development organization of Janssen Pharmaceuticals R&D that focuses in using and developing accelerated studies and predictive models to assess drug stability at different stages of discovery and development. The Postdoctoral Fellow will focus on developing innovative first principle (quantum chemical) and hybrid models combining first principal modelling with machine learning to assess various chemical degradation pathways of drug substances computationally. The work will be performed in the Janssen Campus in Beerse where the successful candidate will have unique opportunity to perform his/her research in collaboration with computational and experimental scientists. Further, (s)he will be responsible for publishing his/her results targeting high-impact journals. Main Duties & Responsibilities Develop methods for predicting chemical degradation pathways of drug substances computationally using various in-silico methods and experimental data. Apply developed workflows for on-going drug discovery projects and identify new development areas. Publish and present results internally and externally. Development, training, conferences, internal meetings & symposia. Qualifications Qualifications PhD in Computational Chemistry or equivalent subjects. Proficiency with quantum chemical methods and using them to model chemical reactions (e.g., in the context of degradation modelling, reaction or homogeneous catalyst optimization and mechanistic understanding). Good knowledge of (physical) organic chemistry and reaction mechanism. Track record of original scientific publications and conference contributions. Motivation to solve problems by carrying out innovative, high-quality scientific work and publish in high-impact journals. Experience in working with machine learning methods is considered an advantage. Comfortable working in Linux command line environment and experienced with shell scripting. Experience with basic statistical analysis methods and software. Experience with programming languages, preferably Python. Demonstrated creativity and innovation in problem solving. Fluent in English both verbal and in writing. Willing to challenge the status quo in a constructive manner suggesting alternative solutions for existing problems. Excellent communication, reporting, planning and team interaction skills, self-motivation, proactivity, and the ability to work independently. Experience with some of the following is considered an advantage Experience with atomistic and coarse graining simulations Scripting workflows and implementing new algorithms Knowledge of kinetic modelling Cheminformatics High performance computing Location: On-site presence (Beerse, Antwerp area, Belgium) and hands-on execution of lab activities.
