Lead Referral Specialist

Overview POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Referral Specialist within the OSF Access Center Referral Services Department is responsible for assisting the Supervisor of Referral Services in answering the day to day questions and concerns within the Referral Center and participating in the training of new employees. The Referral Specialist within the OSF Access Center Referral Services Department is responsible for the timely and efficient processing of referral orders. Demonstrates an undertanding of the importance of a daily focuson quality in the performance of job functions. Must be able to articulate information in a clear and knowledgeable manner to patients, family members, providers, office staff and insurance company representatives. The Referral Specialist is responsible for: - Verifying in network/out of network insurance benefits. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MOA or CMA required or equivalent clinical medical experience in a medical practice office. The Lead Referral Specialist position requires excellent critical thinking skills and a high level of knowledge of referrals and authorizations. Requires strong attention to detail and ability to obtain and record information accurately. Requires excellent and effect verbal and written communication skills. Requires computer skills, and understanding of electronic medical records, and understanding of website navigation and a willingness to learn new technology. Critical thinking skills are required as well as basic problem solving skills, time management skills and the ability to prioritize the daily work. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Medical terminology, coding and experience with referral coordination and health insurance payors.
