The Senior Control System Engineer will be responsible for modelling dynamic systems, their simulation, control algorithm design and implementation of power control loops and energy optimization schemes for solar and storage energy products. As part of the Controls and Modeling team, you will be utilizing MATLAB & Simulink environment to create models of solar generation, energy storage, customer loads, generators, inverters, charge controllers, and other energy sources and loads in the home to run simulations, create control algorithms, and generate C/C++ code that will be incorporated in the embedded software in our products. We are looking for a positive, self-motivated, passionate person with a strong desire to work in an exciting, fast-paced, team based collaborative design environment to help us develop next generation technologies to empower and connect our products to each other, and to our customers. What will you do? Work with product, compliance, and firmware/software team to define new power and energy control strategies Use MATLAB & Simulink to create models of solar, energy storage, generators, inverters, charge controllers, loads, and other power devices within the home Develop power control and energy optimization algorithms for solar production, energy storage, and load management in the home Inverter control feedback loop research, development, implementation, simulation, and verification Design, simulate, test, and generate C/C++ code in MATLAB/Simulink Write engineering requirements, test plans, and validation reports Architectural design of control blocks including block diagrams and flow charts What qualifications will make you successful? Bachelor’s degree (Master or PhD preferred) in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering with specialization in Control Theory or Power Electronics. 3+ years proven experience in controls design and simulation, preferred within inverter controls or power electronics Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Close-Loop and Open-Loop control theory including regulator tuning, system linearization and sensitivity analysis Power electronics control architecture, AC/DC and DC/DC converters, voltage and current control loop MATLAB and Simulink simulation and programming for model-based design, control systems, and automatic code generation Familiarity with safety and compliance standards for grid-connected power electronics Power Management and Energy Optimization in residential or utility scale applications Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated collaborative teamwork capabilities Effective time management and organizational skills; ability to become involved in many projects.
