Role Overview The network specialist works on and within computer network systems associated with various security screening technologies in a business-critical high volume airport environment where real time, on-time passenger and baggage processing is essential. Will generally use software programs like UNIX to manage the complexities of a network system. Will also be responsible for setting up server systems, troubleshooting various software and hardware problems, interconnecting networks via cable, enable seamless communication, electronic mailing and intranet activities between departments and customers. Responsibilities Maintain the integrity of a network system by overseeing the cooling system, the delivery capacity of the system server and the installed software. Installs, tests and maintains the network system, set up firewalls, the UPS, routers and data circuits, as well as manages all aspects of the system like telecommunications and database systems. Train and provide support in areas of systems, network and network configuration, telecommunications and personal computer administration and documents in manuals and procedures and instructions for proper usage and maintenance of the system. Make budgetary quotations for purchase of hardware and software needs, develop IT security software and keep staff and head departments updated on recent upgrades or issues. Maintain matrix workstations as part of the network infrastructure. Daily or more frequent customer interaction Incident management and reporting Root cause analysis and corrective action Escalations management. Perform troubleshooting to system failures and identify bottlenecks to ensure long term efficiency of network Inspect LAN infrastructure and fix minor or major problems/bugs Maintains documentation of all Network systems utilization and deployments Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others from completing their own work Do regular data backups to protect the organization’s information Provide technical direction to co-workers on computer and network usage and offer comprehensive advice and instructions Qualifications Canidate Requirements Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering or information technology. Proven experience (5+ years) as network technician or relevant position. Outstanding diagnostic, problem-solving and analytical skills. Working knowledge of Linux, Windows Server 2016+, Windows 10/11. Good knowledge of LAN/WAN networks, TCP/IP protocols and network technologies. Hands-on experience with common software and hardware. CCENT/CCNA qualifications are strongly preferred (Cisco Certified Networking Technician/Cisco Certified Network Associate). Knowledge and experience configuring and deploying Nagios monitoring software. Desirable Extensive knowledge of computer systems including network administration and design. Desirable Strongly preferred experience with WAN/LAN technologies and protocols, OSPF, RIP, VPN, Switching, VLAN, NAT, PAT, ACL, Desirable SNMP, T1, leased lines and structured cabling. Desirable Candidate Experience Good analytical skills for problem solving are needed as well as good managerial skills to supervise junior level network specialists Excellent communication ability is essential both written and verbal. Ability to work with all levels of management including executive management both in the company and with customer. Good documentation and encoding skills Stay informed of advances in IT Superior English-speaking skills both verbally and in writing
