The Tanzu Mission Control team at VMware is seeking a Product Manager to help define product strategy and advance our mission to make Kubernetes accessible to any enterprise. The Tanzu Mission Control team is focused on helping customers more easily manage Kubernetes and operate modern, containerized applications across multiple clouds and clusters. You will play a pivotal role defining compelling and competitively differentiated capabilities, communicating our roadmap to internal and external stakeholders, understanding our customers deeply, and collaborating with marketing and sales to bring Tanzu Mission Control to market. What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for? In this role, you will be responsible for defining the product strategy to evolve Tanzu Mission Control’s data fabric into a rich, extensible data platform for the entire VMware Tanzu portfolio. Enterprise Kubernetes clusters are packed with data of interest to many stakeholders across the organization. The goal of the data fabric is to make it easy for customers to discover and use the data streams they care about, aggregate and query data across fleets of Kubernetes clusters, and enable partners to integrate their own data sources and sinks to provide their unique value to VMware Tanzu customers. Your impact will enable powerful end-user experiences, more integrated experiences across the Tanzu portfolio, and provide the extensibility and pluggability for a robust ecosystem of partner and community integrations. Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing? Success in the first three months means getting deeply familiar with the many types of data and data sources that originate from Kubernetes clusters, applications, development pipelines, etc. This includes understanding the needs of the key enterprise personas regarding these data sources and how they are used. In parallel, you will also be ramping up on Tanzu Mission Control’s existing data fabric components and services, starting to identify the highest priority gaps based on the customer and ecosystem research, and starting to chart a vision and roadmap for Tanzu Mission Control’s data fabric. Success in the first six months means partnering with engineering to deliver an initial set of improvements and new capabilities that enable VMware customers to experience an integrated product portfolio of data streams and insights. Success in the first year means enabling our second and third-party partners and customers to leverage and extend Tanzu Mission Control’s data fabric by building integrations with their solutions, providing choice, seamless experiences, and additional value to VMware customers. What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis? You will own the short- and long-term strategy for an extensible data fabric in Tanzu Mission Control based on a deep understanding of customer needs, market trends, and competition. Experience defining and prioritizing product features in a complex technical context will serve you well. You will collaborate with other Tanzu teams, as well as partner and community developers, to plan and deliver integrated experiences across the portfolio. An ability to navigate complex decision making and effectively communicate across teams will be critical to success. You will partner with engineering to drive successful product releases. You will be engineering’s connection to our customers and partners and will be responsible for bringing them along for the ride. You will engage frequently with customers and partners to learn about their needs, and occasionally support the sales and partner channels along with key engagements in a pre- and post-sales capacity. The hiring manager for this role is Scott Van Woudenberg, Director of Product Management, leading Tanzu Mission Control’s SaaS Platform product team. Scott joined VMware from Google, where he helped build Google Compute Engine from launch into a multi-billion dollar business.
