<b>Techanical Writer - Contract</b><br> <br><b>Location: Calgary</b><br> <br><b>Length: May-December 2022, potential option to extend. </b><br> <br><b>Schedule: 40 hours, 8am-5pm</b><br><br><b>Job Overview:</b><br> <ul> <li>In this role, you will support the design, development, and implementation of an effective Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) strategy and plan within Syncrude.</li> <li>The Technical Writer works with business clients to develop / update standards, processes, procedures, plans and other governing documents. Drawing on existing content, & collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs), the Technical Writer produces lucid, easy-to-use, high quality documentation that adds value to the business. The Technical Writer also champions the use of approved templates, technical writing best practices, and the importance of consistency between groups and documents</li> </ul> <br><b>Key Accountabilities:</b><br> <ul> <li>Collaborate directly with business SMEs to create and review governing documents</li> <li>Understand Enterprise Governing Document philosophy, document types, and writing methodologies and help to communicate them to business clients for consistency purposes</li> <li>Review existing governing documents to understand content for consistency purposes</li> <li>Correct ambiguity and inconsistencies or contradictions with other documents</li> <li>Work with diverse business units and functions to encourage a consistent, repeatable approach to document structure and style</li> <li>Understand complex technical and business content well enough to articulate it concisely and clearly</li> <li>Make recommendations for improvement for documentation content, writing standards and templates</li> <li>Ensure documents have consistent look and feel. (There will be a number of documents that are required for each OEMS Element at Syncrude and consistency is key for use by end users)</li> <li>Support additional project activities as required as directed by the OEMS Transition Team</li> </ul> <br><br><b>Education and Experience:</b><br> <ul> <li>A degree in Technical Writing, or a combination of an English or Journalism degree and demonstrated success in Technical Writing roles</li> <li>A minimum 5 years' experience working with energy industry clients</li> <li>Experience working with governing documents (policies, standards, procedures, etc.) is an asset</li> <li>Experience with Usability Mapping techniques and principles is an asset</li> </ul> <br><br><b>Skills and Knowledge:</b><br> <ul> <li>Superior English language skills</li> <li>Understanding of the importance of templates and style guides</li> <li>Ability to build strong working relationships and interact with all levels of SMEs</li> <li>Ability to prioritize and handle competing requests and work to tight deadlines</li> <li>Strong understanding of energy industry terminology and practices</li> <li>Advanced skills in full Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, and Acrobat Pro</li> </ul> <br><b>About Petroplan</b><br> <br>Petroplan is the trusted, specialist global Talent Solutions partner of choice for employers and professionals in the Energy sector.
