2 years FTC available immediately

Apply your specialist construction knowledge and high-level drawing skills to produce designs for refurbishments and new builds, roads and also utilities services that are low-cost, functional, safe, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing.

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. Through an ambitious economic development investment programme (EDIP), the Government of St Helena is continuing to improve the economic environment on the island which requires substantial infrastructure to be developed.

The Government is progressing design requirements through the application of RIBA Plan of Works 2013, and all projects will be expected to capture the Clients’ requirements through the application of the tailored version of RIBA.

Working on individual buildings or large redevelopment schemes, your responsibility can extend to the design of the surrounding landscape and spaces, roads and also in relation to the provision of other infrastructure works and utilities services. Communicating with the project and technical teams, you will prepare rough sketches and detailed work with AutoCad and Revit systems. You must prepare, review and redraft alongside the engineering team, making sure that final designs are compliant with building regulations, identifying and communicating potential design challenges to all concerned.

With certification and extensive use of Autocad, you will have a substantial technical background in a similar role. Practiced in delivering high quality designs you have experience in analysing and interpreting information to develop solutions or solve problems. Able to articulate Client requirements, you have a strong imagination and the ability to think and create in 3-D. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills will be essential, including the ability to explain complex ideas and engage people. Your strong interpersonal skills must include motivation, negotiating, influencing and relationship building. Defining and using analytics to support decision making, you are confident in using ICT systems including Management Information Systems and MS Office.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
