The Role : Director - Analytic Quality Review Officer The Location : Hong Kong, Singapore Analytic Quality has a global scope and consists of experienced credit analysts with substantial experience in the Capital Markets. Analytic Quality is charged with: Providing an independent, risk-based assessment of the inherent risks of various sectors and robustness of the analysis to enhance analytical quality by fostering effective analytical processes and defendable ratings Providing S&P’s Global Risk and Compliance Committee, Senior Management and Regulators with an independent view of credit risks and assessment of the application of the methodology used to produce Ratings by conducting sector monitoring and other risk-based activities. The Impact: Responsible for Analytic Quality activities in multiple Sectors of corporates focusing on APAC but will also have global responsibilities. Proactively foster analytical excellence and transparency through monitoring of credit ratings activities including the application of methodologies upon which credit ratings are based, evidence of the analysis performed, and external transparency achieved in publications. Responsibilities As a Review officer focusing on APAC corporates, independently monitor and assess the appropriateness of the analysis supporting Credit Ratings/other ratings products and their related analytical processes in assigned Sectors. Specific Risk Based Activities include, but are not limited to, evaluating (i) the analyses performed including the application of analytic judgement, (ii) the evidence of the analysis supporting them and (iii) the transparency related to the published rationales. Meet with the analytical practice to provide feedback on ratings performance, analytical processes, and risk trends. Managing the relationships with the Analytical Manager/AOCC Leaders of the related Sector as well as serving as an ambassador of AQ’s views, positions and messages to various stakeholders (which can include Board Members, Regulators, and Senior Ratings Management). Facilitate emerging risk identification and the development of remedies. Provide analytical insights and collaborate with the 1st Line on holistic risk mitigation through an integrated framework and goal alignment. Provide insights and advice on best practices and observations across Practices and regions. Design issue-specific tests related to various aspects of the analytical process (macro tests) and direct analytical support in executing. Prepare Risk Based Reports and materials for your assigned sectors, focusing on key systemic analytically relevant risks and trends, and assist with the preparation of Board materials as requested. Research external market data and synthesize the results in order to identify key credit trends and sector risks. Lead/contribute to team’s development and maintenance of various Analytic Platforms/visualizations, including design and implementation to further analytic capabilities and enable insights. Ensure the ongoing development and maintenance of credit/sector metrics for his/her assigned area. Preferred Qualifications: Senior analyst with extensive track record of analytical excellence and subject matter expertise in capital markets, ratings Criteria, and analytical processes with APAC Corporates. Possessing regional knowledge is particularly important when assessing and understanding the nuances of the application of analytic judgement. Understanding of credit/macro risks and organizational & regulatory requirements to enable appropriate assessments and provide valuable insights to the analytical community. Ability to effectively communicate complex concepts/messages orally and in writing. Strong technical skills which will enable them to extract/analyze large sets of data/make connections and to develop appropriate and impactful insights and narratives. Technical capabilities can include but are not limited to the use/understanding of SQL, VBA, Python, Tableau, etc. Ability to transfer Sector knowledge and credit experience when evaluating new Sectors/practices. Ability to appropriately influence relevant stakeholders, as needed. Preference for candidates with Mandarin language proficiency Basic Qualifications: BA or BS in Business, Finance, or related field. Graduate degree preferred. 7+ years in credit analysis (primarily at a rating agency). Demonstrated track record of critical thinking and problem solving. Able to demonstrate independence and objectivity. Proficiency with Excel, SQL, VBA, R, Python preferred.
