Interim Appointment; Immediate Start for 6-Months

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.

The St Helena Health and Social Care Portfolio is committed to delivering high quality, safe care for all our patients and our Health Service is embarking on a transformation programme that will build on existing work to transform patient care and experience over the next five-years in partnership with staff, patients and local and external partners.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Interim Director of Health to join our team for a period of 6-months. With a solid operational background in health/hospital management you will be able to hit the ground running to manage all operations of the Health Service, including the 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, which covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.

This is not your standard Health Director role, you will be someone with a broad range of skills who can operate in very remote and sometimes difficult conditions. This role offers the opportunity to showcase your adaptability and experience. It is hands on and requires excellent leadership, problem solving and communication skills, as well as personal resilience and an ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. You will need to grasp the complexities of providing healthcare in a remote community utilising your experience to develop locally appropriate, sustainable services and solutions.

You will hold a level 6 degree or preferably a level 7 masters, in a health related discipline or equivalent attainment or experience.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
