Principal Scientist - Infectious Diseases Discovery

The Infectious Diseases Discovery group at Janssen in Beerse, Belgium, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Principal Scientist to lead efforts in the discovery and development of novel therapeutic agents. You will collaborate with a diverse group of scientists to lead discovery biology projects aimed at identifying and validating targets and discovering treatment approaches, focusing on Influenza and other respiratory viruses. Key Responsibilities: You will lead multiple complex programs and projects. Responsibilities include: Establishing new tools, assays, and relevant disease models Designing and executing decisional experiments Play a significant role in defining key elements and process steps for achieving new product strategies for R&D Leads the design and implementation of multiple complex research plans Work under limited supervision with a high level of autonomy May supervise/manage Ph.D. and non-Ph.D. scientists setting objectives for individual team members Indirect and/or direct people management responsibility when leading programs or project teams Analyzes highly complex issues and significantly improves, changes or adapts existing methods and techniques Explains and clarifies to influence or persuade others to accept new ideas that challenge the status-quo Frequent interaction with senior internal and external colleagues often requiring coordination across multiple functions and groups Collaborates with external networks to develop ideas for specific projects Leads others in the preparation of scientific publications, patents, journals and presentations Qualifications Education and Experience Ph.D. degree with 5-8 years of business experience or the equivalent training/experience. Demonstrated expertise in virology with experience in target identification and validation is required Prior knowledge and experience in virology and in vivo studies is required Broad and in-depth understanding of drug discovery and early-stage development is an asset Demonstrated competence for team leadership and direct people management Are you ready to make an impact?
