Undergraduate Tech Intern - Measure, Analysis and Control Systems

Responsibilities The Disruptive Technologies (DT) group focuses on the design, engineering, and fabrication of detection systems for a variety of missions ranging from nuclear explosion detection to deployed RF imaging systems. Projects within the research group involve applied projects in support of national security missions. The DT group is seeking an applied mathematician/computer science student to contribute to a wide variety of research and development efforts involving development of computation models for data analysis and uncertainty quantification. The incumbent will work as a technical contributor under the guidance of scientists and engineers, and will be responsible for performing the following technical tasks: Assist with the design and development of proof-of-concept uncertainty models. Design and evaluate performance of machine learning models, such as decision trees and Bayesian Belief Networks. Develop custom software, including scripts in languages such as Matlab, R, or Python and appropriate toolkits for the respective ML or statistical models. Document design implementation in technical reports and presentations. Please note, this is onsite in Richland, WA. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a high school diploma /GED or higher Candidates must be degree-seeking undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited college or university Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall cumulative GPA of 2.50. Preferred Qualifications: Studying for degree in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Statistics. The preferred GFP is 3.50. Curiosity about science and enjoys working on difficult problems. Self-directed and enjoys working on small teams. Written and oral communication skills suitable for presenting and reporting research results. Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment Not Applicable.
