Overview The Earth and Biological Sciences Directorate (EBSD) leads novel and necessary research in three core areas: Atmospheric and Climate Sciences, Biological Sciences, and Environmental Molecular Sciences. The contributions of EBSD staff are many as we continue to elevate the impact of PNNL's science mission: to understand, predict, and control the complex adaptive systems underlying the science behind Earth, energy, and security. Responsibilities The Metabolomics Team resides within the larger Integrative Omics Group in Biological Sciences Division (BSD). The team works closely with the rest of the Integrative Omics Group and the Computation Biology and Systems Biosciences Groups (both also from BSD) to tackle some of the most difficult scientific problems in energy production, environmental issues, and human health. The group works in a highly collaborative environment by combining Systems Biology and Informatics with cellular and molecular biology for function elucidation. The candidate will have access to state-of-art analytical capabilities hosted by the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL), a US Department of Energy national user facility, located on the PNNL campus. These capabilities include some of the most advanced instrumentation in mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and single molecule microscopy. Biochemical, molecular biology, cell culture, and animal labs are also well equipped to fully characterize biomolecule function and mechanism of action. Besides the lab resources, the team offers strong mentoring making the environment conducive for junior scientist growth. The Metabolomics Team is seeking for an Omics Scientist with strong training in multi-omics analysis of cell signaling and metabolic regulation in the context of human physiology and disease. Hands-on experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques are considered a plus. The candidate is expected to manage ongoing projects, provide expertise on biomolecule structural characterization, and eventually, build their Research Program. The candidate should also effectively work with other disciplines mentioned above on large-scale projects. Responsibilities also include: Serve as an intellectual lead for cell signaling and metabolic regulation in projects and extramural funding proposals. Write reports, lead manuscripts, and maintain a strong overall publication record in the peer-reviewed scientific literature. Manage project deliverables, coordinate with technical scientists to execute experiments, and manage and analyze data. Interact, communicate, and problem-solve with a diverse team of multi-disciplinary research staff across PNNL. Develop a research program in Biology/Biomedical Sciences and obtain extramural funding. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR- MS/MA -OR- PhD Preferred Qualifications: PhD in human physiology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, molecular biology, or closely related field. Extensive experience in omics analysis. Cell Biology techniques, such as mammalian cell culture, RNAi, enzymatic assays, immunoassays, etc. A sustained track record of disseminating research through peer-reviewed publications, presentations, etc. Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.
