Overview The Campus Development Division delivers mission ready projects from concept inception through readiness and beneficial use in support of the forward looking PNNL Campus Strategy, emerging research needs, and the ongoing investments in modernizing and maintaining the Laboratory’s existing facilities, utilities, and infrastructure. Campus Development's project lifecycles begin in Facility Strategic Planning as part of the campus wide Facilities and Infrastructure (F&I) planning process. Campus Development excels in actualizing projects that maximize safety, functionality, and reliability, while optimizing the efficiency, sustainability, and life-cycle operating costs of our facility and infrastructure capabilities to enable a mission ready world-class research and development campus for the Department of Energy. Responsibilities Plans, designs and oversees the reconfiguration, maintenance, operation and alteration of buildings, structures, equipment, machinery and other laboratory facilities. Gathers and reviews data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or other regulatory requirements, expected completion date, and construction feasibility. Coordinates with internal and external architecture/engineering organizations in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Integrates Facility sustainability operational considerations in support of DOE and Laboratory goals. Tasks will include engineering studies, preliminary, conceptual, and detailed design, project management, calculations, troubleshooting, preparation of contract documents including drawings and specifications, construction administration, submittal review, and field inspections for all Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) facilities. This position applies engineering knowledge and methods for the accomplishment of discipline specific engineering work assigned to the Engineering Department, which will also include research and development support. This position: Serves as a resource to facilities and infrastructure, and the lab. Assists senior staff in the design production and leadership of medium and large projects. Manages small projects as a lead project engineer, coordinating and managing the activities of other staff. Provides direction and mentoring to less experienced engineering staff, designers, and drafters. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: BS/BA and 2+ years of relevant work experience -OR- MS/MA or higher Preferred Qualifications: Architectural license. Minimum 3 years of commercial building/facility engineering experience. LEED accreditation (or equivalent). Revit, AutoCAD, Enscape 3D or other rendering software, Indesign, Photoshop or Illustrator. Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment Work includes both office work and field walk downs and/or oversight. Field activities may result in exposure to normal/typical construction site hazards, e.g., uneven terrain, welding, cutting, grinding, operations, open excavations, noise, vibrations, heavy equipment, operation, ladder use, exposure to weather.
