Protein Biochemist

Overview The Integrative Omics group develops and applies diverse sample preparation methods to extract protein/peptides and small molecules for molecular profiling and structural studies using mass spectrometry-based technologies. Ongoing studies span across a broad range of disciplines from human health and disease to environmental biology. In support of these studies, the Integrative Omics research group has an entry-level scientist position available with a focus on sample handling and preparation for downstream biochemical analyses. Responsibilities We seek a highly motivated individual with the ability to work in a high-pace and dynamic work environment. The candidate must possess excellent communication, time management skills, versatility, and strong attention to detail. The individual must be self-sufficient and able to operate with limited supervision. Tasks include, but are not limited to, sample preparation for multi-omics (analysis, management of biological and chemical waste, and interfacing with multiple project team members). Previous wet lab experience using chromatography for biomolecular separations is a plus. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: BS/BA or higher Preferred Qualifications: Candidates must have critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and good communication (oral and written) skills. Must be able to demonstrate proficient use of personal computer systems and routine office software. Candidates must have received a degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, or related field. Additional skills of interest include biochemistry, protein expression/purification, metabolite/lipid extraction, chromatography, cell culture, and/or microbiology. Experience working with BSL2 samples. Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment Maintenance of lab infrastructure/environment and compliance with Environmental Safety and Health Operations, security requirements and directorate/group policies are required.
