Job Purpose: As a PostgreSQL Database Engineer, you will ensure that the PostgreSQL design, development, and version currency is aligned with the needs of GSK Business Units. The position will develop along with the PostgreSQL Product Owner and Database Architect the strategies for PostgreSQL that will be used within GSK. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate sound technical capabilities along with effective communication skills to design and build globally capable solutions. Key Responsibilities: Build, package and test solutions for deploying new releases of PostgreSQL ensuring the solutions are compliant with GSK standards and policies, required technical and support documentation is created, and audit readiness is maintained. Interface and ensure alignment with other GSK Tech teams on emerging technologies for database, compute, storage, data protection and disaster/recovery infrastructure. Drive database version currency and security compliance by building, packaging and testing solutions for upgrading as well as applying quarterly security packages for PostgreSQL databases. Work with operational teams to incorporate these solutions into the release process. Develop technical design documents as needed to support strategies. Why You? Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in information technology or business-related field 3+ years extensive knowledge of PostgreSQL database technologies as well as Linux operating system in an enterprise environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of deploying PostgreSQL databases in Azure and/or Google in an enterprise environment PostgreSQL third party tools such as barman, repmgr and pgdump Experience in working with IT service owners and 3rd Party solution providers to develop service or improve process performance Demonstrated experience in the design, delivery, and execution of automated and self-service database solutions for a global internal and external audience Shell scripting including bash, ansible playbooks, and PostgreSQL scripting Knowledge of enterprise compute, storage, and database infrastructure solutions Experience working in an Agile environment Proven ability to map business requirements to technical solutions Demonstrated process and service improvement skills Experience with migrating from Oracle to PostgreSQL Why GSK?
