The opportunity: With increasing globalization, companies have a growing need for advice on customs legislation and trade compliance. KPMG's Trade & Customs Practice provides innovative solutions that result in bottom-line benefits for companies involved in importing and exporting goods. To assist our clients, our team analyzes complex global supply chains and associated financial transactions. We help our clients achieve cost savings by claiming refunds of customs duty, while managing trade compliance risk and enhancing global trade processes. With our KPMG global network, we leverage our technical knowledge in Canadian and international customs legislation as well as business acumen to provide cutting-edge results. Our Vancouver office is seeking an undergraduate student to join the team as a summer intern starting May 2023. Throughout the summer internship, you’ll work on client engagements and have access to training, professional development and innovative learning experiences. From reviewing business processes to analyzing trade data, you’ll be building strong relationships with our people and developing professional skills that will help set you up for success. Working with the Trade & Customs team requires candidates to be interested in developing experience in private industry, customs policy, global supply chain or public accounting. As a member of our Trade & Customs Practice, you will have exposure to complex customs compliance issues, Canadian trade initiatives, such as Free Trade Agreements, and provide support to other tax professionals. Please note that this position does NOT support the CPA designation. What you will do Support team members who assist clients with various customs matters Perform technical research Perform customs duties analysis Stay informed on current and pending import/export regulations and policy Review import data and customs documentation for accuracy and format What you bring to the role Currently studying in a business degree, specialization in international business management, international trade or trade & customs would be considered an asset Must have taken courses in accounting Excellent written and verbal communications skills Ability to work both independently and within a team environment Ability to manage competing priorities Consistent attention to detail Keys to your success: Individuals who take deep personal accountability for their work, have a passion for excellence, driven to achieve their full potential and understand the value of building relationships with clients, future clients, their communities, the global firm and each other.
