Tax Technology Director

Baker Tilly’s Tax Technology team has a number of incredible opportunities within the role of Product Owner. As the tax technology strategy is rolling out, there are various workstreams that will require a Product Owner including Corporate Direct Tax, Indirect Tax, Asset Management, Individual Tax and overall Client Platform applications. The product owner is responsible for guiding the direction of the product. The success of the product development hinders on the strength of its Product Owner. Product Owners rank the work based on its business value. Product Owners work with subject matter experts in their respective tax service lines to gather requirements and feedback and priorities those requirements within their backlog. Product owners work with their development team (whether internally or 3rd party development firms) by providing feedback and setting the direction on the next piece of functionality to be developed/delivered. You will enjoy this role if you: Have a growth mindset and are willing to think outside the box to improve on how things are done today Enjoy working with technology Can think on behalf of the tax practice to prioritize their needs Have a great sense of urgency and ability to meet defined deadlines Have very strong critical thinking and communication skills Able to work with stakeholders at varying levels in the organization The Product Owner will become the face of the application and see it from inception through rollout to the firm What you will do: Responsible for defining the product direction, creating and managing the product roadmap and budget Create and prioritize the product backlog of requirements, enhancements, and bug fixes Lead the product development of owned application(s) and report back to tax and tax technology leadership Lead the effort to solicit feedback from subject matter experts to build product backlog Lead or support the day-to-day project/sprint activities provided to you by tax technology leadership Act as the liaison between internal business stakeholders and development teams Perform risk-based assessments of in-flight projects to determine potential project issues and participate in issue resolution Act as escalation impediment resolution for major issues that can not be resolved within the development team Bring opportunities for improvement on product development that is in line with the firm’s growth initiatives in tax Identify opportunities within the business that our team can successfully impact for future projects Qualifications Successful candidates will have: 10+ years of related experience; previous related industry and consulting experience highly preferred General understanding of Agile development process is preferred but not required Background in at least one of the following tax services (Individual, Corporate, Partnership, Exempt Org, compliance, tax provision, State and Local tax and International tax) Experience with process improvement and automation (Lean Six Sigma experience a plus) Demonstrate management, analytical, organization, interpersonal, project management, communication skills, and highly developed Microsoft Suite skills (Word, Excel) required Strong understand of internal tax department software tools (CCH Axcess, GoFileRoom, Caseware, GoSystem) as well as additional tools used in the market (ONESOURCE, CorpTax, Longview) Ability to collaborate well with others, demonstrate commitment to continuous learning to stay current regarding applicable strategies, see the
