Site Name: UK - Hertfordshire - Stevenage Posted Date: Feb 6 2023 Job Purpose The Digital Biological Twin lead will set up the digital biological twin (DBT) lab in GSK to assist clinical development of drug pipelines and to contribute to preclinical development programmes within GSK. Exploiting patient-derived organoids, the DBT lab will apply a multimodality analytic approach, plus machine learning models which are coupled with paired patient-derived data feedback, to improve cancer patient risk stratification as well as to predict future targeted and/or immuno-therapy susceptibilities. In this role, you will also ensure synergy and collaboration between this new unit and KCL scientists within the GSK-King’s College London (KCL) Translational Oncology Research Hub (https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/sep/17/gsk-teams-with-kings-college-to-use-ai-to-fight-cancer), an exclusive research collaboration between GSK and the Comprehensive Cancer Centre at KCL. In addition, you will provide functional and strategic linkages between the GSK Digital biological twin unit and other units e.g. AI/ML, EMU, Development (e.g. Oncology team EDL & MDL), various Oncology-relevant Research Units (RU), functional genomics (FxG), proteomics, Clinical Imaging, etc., working together towards improving patient stratification of clinical treatments using GSK assets, alone or in combination with standard of care treatment. Key Responsibilities Training, leading, and managing a team of scientists Leading and managing external collaborations with research partners Data output, writing scientific and regulatory Hiring new members of the DBT lab Undertaking the annual review and setting objectives for direct reports within the DBT lab Helping and supporting the Head of the DBT lab Preparing data presentations and writing governance proposals for support/development and expansion of the lab Oversight and identifying data that may be worth considering patenting (intellectual property (IP) generation) as well as producing IP documents. Providing clear recommendations on future experimental plan to the DBT project team, based on a solid understanding and interpretation of the data Supporting and developing the automation process for the project to extend the throughput of various multimodal assays Taking oversight of the projects within DBT- this entails managing and supervising activities daily; as well as monitoring timelines in the DBT team, and to ensure synergy and collaboration/cooperation between this new unit with KCL scientists within the GSK-KCL Translational Oncology Research Hub, an exclusive research collaboration between GSK and the Comprehensive Cancer Centre at KCL Why you? Basic Qualifications: 8+ years of post-doctoral experience as a minimum. PhD A multidisciplinary mix of training/expertise in Oncology, Immunology and Cancer cell biology Integrative data analysis. Significant experience in all the different lab techniques (particularly flow cytometry, exosomes, imaging and RNA/DNA analysis). Significant experience in managing and training lab team members in academic research or industry environment. A strong knowledge of oncology and immunology as well as experience in cell culture and diverse assays: Cellular and molecular Biology skills A track record of high-quality scientific Publications Experience in collaboration with biopharma Strong skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously with an ability to prioritise appropriately Strong skills in training and leading
