The Distributed Systems Group is focused on designing, testing, and applying edge solutions to enhance the resiliency and efficiency of our Nation's infrastructure and of distributed sites that rely on that infrastructure, while paving the way for integrating large numbers of devices into a holistic energy system. The group's capabilities include: renewables/technology integration; distribution system modeling and planning; grid architecture and system engineering; asset & portfolio valuation; and power electronics. Responsibilities The Valuation Team within DSG looking for a PhD intern to perform research in the area of electricity price modeling and market design frameworks in the presence of zero marginal cost resources including hydropower resources. While specific tasks may vary, the prospective intern will likely gain experience in these areas: Power systems modeling, with capabilities to support Market clearing mechanisms and bidding strategies Unit commitment and economic dispatch algorithms Hydropower resources modeling Automation of developed modeling methods to develop a platform to effectively disseminate research outcomes Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with production cost modeling tools (e.g., GridView, PLEXOS, etc.) Experience with dynamic grid modeling methods Knowledge and experience with optimization problem formulation and solutions strategies Knowledge and experience with open-source modeling and application development Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment Not Applicable.
