Overview The Nuclear Signatures Group is seeking an outstanding scientist to support nuclear arms control and safeguards research and development. We are specifically interested in a highly motivated, capable individual with experience in arms control and/or safeguards with a background in radiation detection to join a dynamic multi-disciplinary team. The primary job responsibility will be to lead and contribute to a variety of projects in these growing research areas. Current research areas include hardware and software security, process monitoring, verification measurements (including gamma and neutron measurements), and chain of custody tools. The candidate needs to have the ability to perform and lead in-depth research independently and collaborate effectively in a team. The work will involve preparing manuscripts for publication and presenting work internally and externally. It is expected that the successful candidate will steward research opportunities to address the numerous challenges in nuclear arms control and/or safeguards. Responsibilities Lead research and development activities in arms control and/or safeguards. Engage in specific research areas range from the structure and properties of matter; detector design; nuclear, particle, electromagnetic phenomena. Physicists may design, model, prototype, construct, and operate radiation measurement and/or detection systems deployed internationally and domestically. Physicists routinely engage in experimental measurements and complex, data-intensive analysis. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant work experience -OR- MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant work experience -OR- PhD with 3+ year of relevant experience Preferred Qualifications: A PhD in Physics or Nuclear Engineering Experience in either safeguards and/or arms control Demonstrated strong analytical techniques and critical thinking Demonstrated history of developing and leading projects in related field Demonstrated communications skills, with the project team, sponsors, and other stakeholders Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment Not Applicable Additional Information This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance. Requirements: U.S. Citizenship Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance with 10 CFR 710, Appendix B. Drug Testing: All Security Clearance positions are Testing Designated Positions, which means that the candidate selected is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
