Þpartment Neurology Job Summary Provides professional nursing care to patients and families in an acute clinical care environment, guided by the SMHCS nursing professional practice model and in accordance with the ANA's Standards of Professional Practice. New graduate and experienced Cardiac Neuro Nurses are uniquely trained, specializing in both Cardiac and Neuro to meet the needs of our cardiac/neuro patient population as part of our DNV Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. We have a dedicated Charge RN knowledgeable in both our neuro population our cardiac population along with a unit based Pharmacist, Case Manager and Social Worker to support and provide resources for our patients and staff. Patient Population Cardiac Neuro serves an adult patient population with complex cardiac and neurological needs. Nursing care can include: Cardiac & Neuro medication and drip management Continuous cardiac monitoring Continuous EEG monitoring Acute cardiac arrhythmias Chest pain Seizures Stroke Post-operative spinal surgeries Myasthenia gravis Guillian Barre Craniotomy Post brain embolization Pre/Post Cardiac procedures including: Pacemaker implantation, cardioversion, ablations, transesophageal echocardiograms, & catheterizations SMH Opportunities for Experienced and Novice Nurse ANCC Accredited New Grad Nurse Residency Program Detailed, specialized, individual orientation plan Cardiac Internship Specialized training in Basic Arrhythmia and ACLS Mentorship after orientation Paid certification and study materials for certification Tuition reimbursement Required Qualifications Require Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within six (6) months of hire for experienced RN or one (1) year for new graduate, and maintain throughout employment. Require graduate of an accredited school of nursing or a diploma program. For new hires after 2012, Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing (BSN) required within three (3) years of hire date. Require successful completion of Basic Arrhythmia test within ninety (90) days of employment Require National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within sixety (60) days of employment for experienced RNs and new graduate RNs. Require basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications.
