The Immunology and Cardiovascular Thematic Research Center (TRC) at BMS is one of the fundamental Research and Early Development (R&ED) units delivering therapeutics to patients. BMS seeks a highly motivated, creative and collaborative Cardiovascular (CV) Disease Biologist with molecular disease mechanism focus to support research efforts to identify and characterize novel therapeutic targets for heart failure and support mechanism-based drug development. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teams within CV Discovery Biology to support BMS’s Cardiovascular Research and Early Discovery efforts. Research will be aimed at the identification and characterization of novel therapeutic targets, support of compound screening efforts, and translational work to fully characterize our drug candidates. The applicant is required to have a strong background in molecular pathogenesis of heart diseases, cardiomyopathy, protein-protein interaction, intracellular transport, cell signaling, and evaluating changes in gene-expression. This position provides an exciting opportunity to be a part of, and grow with a core function within the Genetic Cardiomyopathy Department. In this role, the candidate will have an excellent opportunity to learn and develop career in drug discovery process from target ideation to clinical development. In the role as a Scientist/Sr. Scientist within Genetic Cardiomyopathy, the ideal candidate: Conducting scientific research to understand the molecular pathogenesis of heart failure and define new therapeutic targets Working in collaboration with different functional groups to advance state-of-the art techniques at the molecular level of research Communicating and collaborating with members of project teams in the execution of laboratory experimentation Maintaining working knowledge of principles and theories, applying such knowledge to the research projects that supports Company interests. Demonstrating technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and independent thought in suggesting experimental design and research strategy. Presenting results of work in departmental or Company meetings, training fellow scientists in cell culture and molecular biology techniques Perform nucleotide manipulation techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, purification, quantification, PCR amplification, gel electrophoresis, restriction digestion, gel extraction, ligation. Design and execute gene-editing experiments with mammalian cells, including iPSCs, in collaboration with our Cell Biology team. Adapt quickly to adjust workload and priority based on project needs and assignments. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree 5+ years of academic and / or industry experience Or Master’s Degree 3+ years of academic and / or industry experience Or Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life Sciences Preferred Qualifications: Research interest and relevant research experience in the mechanism of cardiac genome regulation, including epigenetic regulation, enhancer/promoter biology, and RNA editing and silencing Hands-on experience in gene manipulation, RNA-seq, ChIP-Seq, various -Seq technologies, and mass-spec analysis Hands-on experience in isolating primary cardiomyocytes (adult and neonatal mouse) and culturing iPS-derived cardiomyocytes and gene knockdown technology in those cells for molecular biology studies Hands-on experience in histopathology, immunostaining, mouse echocardiography, and creating disease models in small animals (a strong plus) Engineering of different heterologous expression systems, incl. bacterial, yeast, mammalian and insect cell systems (a plus). Ability to adapt, learn quickly and lead innovation\Ability to develop new techniques and methodologies as dictated by research need and introduce new technologies or methods to the team Ability to stay current with the scientific literature and state of the art, as well as interpret literature results in light of new findings Independence in problem solving and advancement of scientific projects toward common team goals Proven track records on building great relationships within functions and cross-functionally in collaborative environment. Exceptional communication, presentation, and data analysis skills. The starting pay takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed. Final, individual compensation is decided based on demonstrated experience.
