Instrument and Control Engineer

Wood is are looking to recruit an I&amp;C Engineer with extensive experience in the oil and gas petrochemical industry, to join our team based in Hull.<br />

Responsible for the engineering development of instrument and control documentation, specifications and design briefs, together with associated calculations relating to a wide range of industrial equipment for industries such as oil and gas, petrochemical, speciality chemical and power generation. On occasion, Engineers may also to provide technical support to other departments / disciplines as required within other areas of the company / organisation.<br />

Engineers shall have an in-depth working knowledge of instrument and control equipment and systems and be able apply their knowledge to develop an appropriate design solution. As required, travel to job site / factory to undertake constructability review, measurements, installation check and surveys, etc. to suit specific client / project. May also be required to assist with FAT / SAT.<br />
<br />
As instructed by the Senior Instrument and Control Engineer carries out detailed instrument and control engineering and design work as may be required which may include but will not be limited to the following:</p>

<ul>
<li>Calculations as may be required, e.g. cable calculations, control valve sizing, IS calculations, thermowell sizing, etc.</li>
<li>Development and implementation of design verification and testing processes</li>
<li>Identification / instruction of engineering requirements to the Instrument and Control Design team</li>
<li>Develop innovative design solutions and be responsible for the specification compliance of designs</li>
<li>Responsible for instrument and control specification and selection of equipment whilst considering obsolescence, availability and cost issues</li>
<li>Responsible for preparing and undertaking design review</li>
<li>Ensures that the Engineering team maintain associated files and electronic information in accordance with both mandatory and company / client requirements</li>
<li>Undertake detailed surveys to identify appropriate design solutions</li>
<li>Identify and take measures to mitigate any instrument and control technical risks and to report such findings to the Senior Instrument and Control Engineer</li>
<li>Ensure that their knowledge of latest technology and best practice are maintained and up to date</li>
<li>Effectively handle client interfaces and resolution of technical queries as may be requested by the Senior Instrument and Control Engineer</li>
<li>Assist with FAT / SAT as may be required</li>
<li>To assist the Senior Instrument and Control Engineer as may be required in the effective management of engineering / design change</li>
<li>As instructed by the Senior Instrument and Control Engineer, to review instrument and control drawings and documents, e.g. functional design specification, datasheets, cabling block diagrams, loop diagrams, intrinsically safe calculations, schedules, etc.</li>
<li>Responsible for the generation, development and review as may be applicable of all instrument and control construction workpacks or part thereof</li>
<li>Ensures the delivery of final instrument and control engineering / design output suits the project and or client specific requirements</li>
<li>Responsible for reporting progress of all assigned tasks to the Senior Instrument and Control Engineer</li>
<li>Creation of technical reports and documentation as may be required</li>
<li>Responsible for ensuring that the drawing / equipment libraries, etc. are regularly maintained are up to date and are correct</li>
<li>To embrace and implement the companies attitude to continual assessment and improvement</li>
<li>Adopt safe attitudes towards engineering design and identify / review features affecting the safety and integrity of the design</li>
<li>Adhere to company policies and procedures</li>
<li>Be part of the company safety and quality culture.</li>

<br />
<b>Skills / Qualifications </b><br />
<br />
Degree in Instrument and Control Engineering or HNC / HND with suitable experience<br />
<br />
Membership of an appropriate professional Body / Institute<br />
<br />
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working towards achieving this)<br />
<br />
Normally 3 years post-graduation minimum<br />
<br />
Demonstrate an in-depth working knowledge of instrumentation and control engineering<br />
<br />
Understanding and experience of relevant codes and standards including BS 7671, IEC 61511, ATEX, DSEAR, CDM 2015, etc. and how to apply them<br />
<br />
Knowledge and understanding of control systems design and functionality, such as DCS, PLC&
39;s, SCADA, etc.<br />
<br />
Experience within the oil and gas, petrochemical or power generation sectors<br />
<br />
Have experience of working with Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS)<br />
<br />
Demonstrate a sound understanding of industry best practices and work to established standards and current legislation<br />
<br />
Experience of equipment specification and calculations, such as, Intrinsically Safe calculations, thermowell sizing, etc<br />
<br />
Previous site survey experience<br />
<br />
Offshore design experience<br />
<br />
Demonstrate an understanding of functional safety, IEC 61508, etc<br />
<br />
ATEX training<br />
<br />
Demonstrate good communication and organisational skills<br />
<br />
Be a flexible team player and be able to work on own initiative<br />
<br />
Possess excellent problem solving skills and provide suitable design solutions<br />
<br />
Have the ability to learn new skills and adapt to changing workload demand<br />
