As a Senior Product Designer on the Design Platform team, you will be a part of a highly collaborative group of creative problem solvers with a passion for innovation. You will build intuitive, beautiful, and meaningful design patterns, UI components and interactions in the space of enterprise IT software. You will collaborate with cross-functional product teams, designers and engineers across the globe to create at the system level, helping teams build consistent experiences. You must be comfortable engaging with consumers, partners, and internal teams in both small and large group settings. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing? Within the first three months- Understand VMware technology and domain by attending internal training, reading technical materials, and through conversations with key stakeholders. Meet with the design and cross-functional team to understand project scope and proactively establish the relationships that will drive design initiatives in the future. Learn our design system, design process, and familiarize yourself with the tools we use. Focus on small wins that will help establish a good rapport with your peers. Within the first six months- Following a user centered design process, deliver design for a medium-sized initiative focusing on end-to-end workflows and conducting thorough research to gain confidence in your design decisions. Collaborate and engage with other designers, architects, and researchers as needed. Keep a close loop with the cross-functional team by listening to their feedback while still maintaining ownership and autonomy over the design decisions. Resolve conflicts and make decisions fast by being thoughtful and informed at the same time. Agree to disagree and commit. Deal with different personality types with empathy and choose battles focusing on the maximum positive impact for our customers. Work with engineering to ensure design specifications are followed in the implementation and resolve any fit and finish issues. Beyond six months- Work with design architects, managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to identify long-term strategic design initiatives that are innovative in nature. Bring visionary ideas to life by documenting end-to-end workflows, rapid prototyping and validating with users. Iterate on the designs as needed and work with PMs to influence the product roadmap. Set a direction for the design team by identifying smaller initiatives that connect with the vision. The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis? Responsibilities: Train and onboard designers who use our system, guiding them to successful outcomes with Clarity Research and partner to create design patterns with product and accessibility teams Design and refine system components with engineering Build and maintain the Figma component library Employ user centered design process to drive user experience of VMware products and services. Closely collaborate with the product management and engineering teams to identify product goals and vision. Partner with user experience researchers to talk directly with customers to understand the user needs, goals and motivations. Independently run user research as needed. Conceptualize and define a design strategy that supports customer needs and business goals. Provide detailed end-to-end workflows and user flows illustrating the solution. Closely collaborate with a geographically spread design team to co-design while ensuring consistency across the suite of products and services. Advocate user needs throughout the development lifecycle in an agile/iterative environment to ensure problem-solution fit. Verify and improve your designs through reviews, validation and formal usability testing with end users. Review UI implementation and engage with engineering to address fit and finish issues. Become a subject matter expert with the ability to understand the latest architecture, technology, solution, market trends, as well as competitive offerings related to VMware products. What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like? This role sits in the VMware Design Platform team. We are a hybrid team comprised of Product, Content, and Visual Designers, and Engineering. The team is geographically dispersed with a majority of members based in the US. The team culture is based on building trust and focused on establishing relationships within design and cross-functional teams.
