We are now seeking an Immunology Network Leader to ensure delivery of the Immunology Network’s (IN) global strategic objectives. You will do this by directly contributing to scientific projects and opportunities to ensure GSK is connected to the latest innovations in Immunology. As a professional, highly regarded leader in the field of Immunology, you will be accountable to connect these ideas and thought leaders with GSK scientific projects to deliver high quality scientific portfolio impact by identifying field leading PI’s, advisors, and collaborations, supervising GSK scientists and postdocs and co-authoring high-impact publications reflecting our innovative science. This role requires a deep and extensive immunology background and strategic perspective of immunology research that has the potential of significant future therapeutic value, an understanding of the early portfolio and a deep knowledge of drug discovery. You will identify opportunities to make connections with external academic PI’s, Professors, advisors, and immunologists throughout GSK and will lead the Immunology Network to impact GSK’s strategic research focus on Immunology and Genomics. You will do this through nurturing close interactions with GSK immunologists in Immunology, Vaccines, Oncology, Neuro-inflammation, and Infectious Diseases. GSK launched the Immunology Network to enhance connections between GSK and academic scientists, to discover the next breakthroughs in immunology that can ultimately be developed into novel therapies for multiple diseases impacted by a dysregulated immune system. Key features of the network designed to enable this mission include the Immunology Network members, who act as consultants, as well as those who can spend time on sabbatical at GSK. GSK scientists and academic immunologists will work together on cutting edge science and you will ensure extensive scientific exchange between them through co-location, collaborations, and highly impactful bi-annual scientific Network Summits. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:  Refine the Immunology Network strategy for GSK Research in conjunction with the IN sponsor. Align to the R&D strategic focus on Immunology and Genetics and our ongoing commitment to innovation, with a focus on establishing long term strategic partnerships with renowned leaders in the field of immunology. Build relationships with the academic immunology community and with the board and the academics on sabbatical at GSK, and lead the recruitment of future members. Lead the Immunology Network core team (associate director, operations facilitator) and additionally academics on sabbatical, postdocs, and GSK staff on secondment with contributions from GSK stakeholders. Ensure ongoing input from external board members. Design scientific seminars and Summits to ensure continued development of the immunology community across GSK and to maximise the scientific value of cutting-edge developments and technologies in the field of immunology. Develop and maintain partnerships with key colleagues across GSK globally ensuring ongoing alignment of goals and strategies across Oncology, Infectious Diseases and Vaccines. Facilitate collaboration with GSK staff and academics and supervise scientific research projects with postdoctoral fellows. Develop and maintain trusting partnerships with key external groups, such as academic institutions, other pharma, and grant-awarding bodies to optimally deliver against our goals and strategies. Define and ensure execution of an internal and external communication strategy that raises awareness and supports the goals of the IN together with the GSK communication teams. Prepare strategic documents and presentations, contribute to briefing and communications materials. Responsibility for budgets, resources, and planning. Development of people and building a talent pipeline. This is a matrix role across various internal functions (e.g., Research, Development) and external groups (Academic, Pharma and funding bodies). The role generates and maintains a consistent, stable, and robust environment for the IN, enabling attainment of short, medium, and long-term goals.   Why you?  Basic Qualifications:   PhD in Immunology/related field or equivalent experience. Substantial relevant experience in multiple aspects of immunology. Track record of collaborative publications in top tier journals in the field of immunology. Considerable experience gained from within the pharmaceutical industry. Experience of leading and working in a matrix to understand and support the needs of internal stakeholders. Proven and considerable experience in leading teams of both scientific and operational staff at all levels. A credible leader with experience of inspiring, motivating, influencing others, and developing and managing outstanding high performing teams. Preferred Qualifications:   If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:  Experience of working with external stakeholders and Key Opinion Leaders to achieve a common goal and collaborate on specific areas of science. Outstanding influencing and senior stakeholder management (internal and external) and dealing with organisational complexity. Experience in recruiting, training, and developing postdoctoral fellows.
